I usually avoid DC during the Cherry Blossom festival since it so insanely crowded and busy. In addition to my allergies.
However, my mom's spring break is the same as mine this year. She is coming out the see DS and the blossoms.
Any tips on places to go/avoid. From what I can tell the best place is basically by the Jefferson Memorial right?
If we planned to go into the city next Monday during the day do you think we would be able to park by the FDR memorial or do you think it would be better to Metro in with stroller. So that brings up another question...do we need a car seat for a cab in DC if we Metro?
Re: Cherry Blossoms
We took Maggie her first year and just did metro to the Smithsonian stop and walked from there with the stroller. It was a Saturday and it was crowded (we went with BIL and SIL and it was pre-kids for them so they didn't get up real early). We only went down and walked around a little - not the whole circuit of the tidal basin which would have been nice on an uncrowded day like a weekday.
Here are our pics of the day, you can kind of see in the background how crowded it was.
If you're planning on going Monday the 29th you may have some people around doing touristy things, but the cherry blossoms won't be blooming yet so you won't have that crowd to deal with. Don't know about the car seat in a cab question.

Peak bloom is actually forecasted for 4/1 so Monday there should definitely be trees blooming though the majority won't be in full bloom. There are already some that are blooming around the Basin. My advice is definitely go early on a week day. I would Metro rather than trying to find a parking spot.
Here's an article on other places to see the blossoms other than the Tidal Basin to avoid crowds.
