I don't think all kids hide. Most do, but neither of mine ever have.
Signs of being ready include awareness that they are going, ability to physically get on the potty, and that they mind being dirty. The last one is the hardest for us. There is another readiness sign listed in Baby411, but I can't remember it for some reason.
I definitely need to read up on this more b/c I think DD is showing signs lately. She'll say "potty" BEFORE she poops and she sometimes gets really excited about going to see the big potty and even sitting on it w/ her clothes on for practice. Then she flushes and a few minutes later she says "poop" and low and behold, she's pooping.
So she's giving me notice and she is somewhat interested in the toilet - I figure I should just go ahead and buy a potty and have it on hand and kinda try to have her use that every now and then - like before a bath or something.
I'm just trying to be really careful b/c I feel like she's too young to start officially training (even though I've heard otherwise from other moms) and I really don't want to pressure her at all.
