I'm trying to order all kinds of last minute things today through Amazon. Just curious if anyone has any recommendations/suggestions of any must-have items and might be able to offer feedback regarding the following -
Do I really need a grooming kit or are fingernail clippers all I'll really need till I know baby has hair to brush? Clipping baby nails scares me to death, so I'm thinking about getting this - does anyone here use it? https://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B001UFFE82/ref=ord_cart_shr?_encoding=UTF8&m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&v=glance
I've always heard rectal is better in terms of thermometers, but now reading a lot about temporal - what should I get?!?
Does anyone use the Nosefrida Snotsucker (heh)? Yay? Nay? Ew?
Re: Baby first aid / grooming supplies?
I don't think you need a whole grooming kit - I got one and it was a waste of money. I have only used the hairbrush it came with 1-2x. haha.
It took me awhile before I was comfortable with cutting DS's nails. I HATE nail clippers - the few times I used them they cut down so far that it made DS's fingers bleed.
I now use the baby nail scissors. They work GREAT. A lot of people prefer the emery boards - I just thought they took too long and made DS's nails bend.
I have a rectal thermometer that I think has worked pretty well - usually the rectal temp runs a little warmer than the rest of the body but it's been pretty accurate for us and gets a temp read really quick.
Don't get a snotsucker - the one they give you at the hospital is better than any one you would buy online.
I'm pretty much a ditto, but wanted to add a few things.
We bought a brush for DS & use it still today. I used it when he was a baby to brush out the cradle cap, but he didn't get much hair until he was 2. We use it every night now after his bath but have never used the comb that came with it.
We used the baby emery boards until his nails were a bit thicker. The clippers & scissors terrified me, lol. I would just file his nails when he was asleep on my lap & take my time.
We used a rectal & will again, but I don't know much about the tempural ones...except they're expensive!
And take the nose sucker you get at the hospital, nothing is as good. We were lucky & scored 2 so we always had one that was clean & dry.
The nail clippers were a must for us..she was always scratching herself and us. We clipped her nails when she was asleep and it was easy.
Our pedi only wants rectal temps when we call about a fever so that's all we take. She doesn't mind it at all.
We took the nose sucker from the hospital..the one that came in our grooming kit sucked.
We bought a separate brush. DD was born with lots of crazy hair.
