I really, really want to do cloth diapers, but our LO will be in daycare after my 12 weeks are up. I've only met with one daycare so far, but they were not willing to deal with CDs- is this typical? Should I just assume that I will need to do disposables? I thought about CDing at home, but it seems like a big expense when I'll need to buy disposables too.
Thoughts?
Re: Are cloth diapers a no-go with WMs?
We use CDs. I only looked at family day cares, but they were all willing to do it. When I met with them, I showed them a sample diaper (Bumgenius 3.0) so they could see how similar it was to a disposable as far as they were concerned. I don't know that a center would have responded the same way as these in-home providers did.
I found this link really helpful: https://www.realdiaperassociation.org/daycare/tip-sheet.php
Thanks! We have two appointments set up with home daycares, so hopefully they will be a bit more flexible
DD is in daycare and has always worn cloth diapers. When I went back to work at 3 mos, I switched to all Bum Genius 3.0. Her daycare center had never seen them before, but saw how easy they were and were willing. I have since switched to another daycare and no problem.
It is totally doable! You might just have to encourage a center a bit. I was nervous about this and didn't want to get off on a bad start, seem like a pushy demanding mom, but with just a little persistance in having them check to make sure it was ok, I think her teachers actually have all thought they were pretty cool!
I'd say the hardest thing with working FT and cloth diapers is the laundry. I have 24 diapers and wash every other day.
Also, I take a med size zippered Planetwise bag and they put the dirty diapers in there to send home.
I have another friend who just does cloth diapers at home.
The laundry might take a toll on me too. Good point. Though, DH works fewer hours than me and would probably take on the bulk of that.
I CD. I didn't start until DD1 was 15 months old and had already been at the same in home daycare for 9 months. I just asked my daycare lady if she was willing and I brought in a pocket diaper to show her how they work. She said no problem! And she's actually told me several times that she prefers the cloth to disposables. And I converted another mom at the daycare to cloth!

our nanny is ok with our cloth diapers. We have the easy ones, BGs. I do have to stuff and have them ready and I do all the washing.
Its not that hard. I wash every other night. Only 2-3 diapers get poop and then I toss them in the dryer.
