Success after IF

Q about IF coverage and health insurance

Are companies required by law to give you notice before they change your coverage, including IF coverage?  I believe we get a notice each November of changes that will take place upon the new year, but I don't know if they are required to do this or not.

I'm a little paranoid of our awesome IVF coverage being taken away from us.

Thanks!!

  • I am fairly certain that they can not change coverage mid-year like that. You would be notified if that were the case.

  • They can't just take it away from you mid-year. However, they do not have to notify you if they're going to change it (and take it away) for next year. If you get your new benefits each Nov., then you will just get a summary of new coverage and it will either be in there or subtracted. They don't have to give you any other notice than that.

Hopefully, you still have it for next year! Good luck!!

  • I agree with pp.  Many companies change policies from year to year.  This would mean some notification during open enrollment or prior to the following year.

That being said while we were undergoing treatment I worried about this also.  But honestly, it is not worth worrying about b/c it is not in your control.  I always kept my mouth shut about our coverage b/c I didn't want anyone evaluating it.  We still have the same coverage.  Hang in their and take advantage while you can.
