Something fiction, preferably available on Kindle, and I think I'm in the mood for something sad. I don't feel like anything historical, and I think I'd like a female protagonist.
Oh, wait. I lied. That's the audio book I have, Fred (the new one). I've read all of Jodi Picoult's book despite the fact that every time I read one, I say it's the last one.
Gia, am I going to lost with that book if I know nothing about the Bible and don't believe in any god?
It fits all your requirements. Female lead, sad (very sad, but has a nice ending), and is on the kindle.
ETA: I just remembered the lady has two abortions in the book.... so might be a difficult read for some.

Never Let Me Go by Kazuo Ishiguro. Kind of a sad and F'd up topic. Really unique and narrated by the female lead.
I give up trying to get a ticker. I have a DD that is 2.5 years old and is awesome. Maybe I'll add a quote to distinguish myself. Hmmm. How about...
"It is more fun to talk with someone who doesn't use long, difficult words but rather short, easy words like "What about lunch?" - A.A. Milne, Winnie-the-Pooh
Never Let Me Go by Kazuo Ishiguro. Kind of a sad and F'd up topic. Really unique and narrated by the female lead.
OMG, I LOVED this book. I've read a lot of these, but I'm bookmarking this thread. I just downloaded the Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. It doesn't fit my request, but I just remembered I have the Girl Who Played with Fire and I need to read the Dragon Tattoo one first.
I really liked Addiction by Toni Jordan. It's different, but I really liked it.
A popular one was the The Help by Kathryn Stockett. It's a Southern fiction read.
Still Alice by Lisa Genova is an amazing, amazing book, but a tough read. It's beautiful though. You will cry. I tear up thinking about it, but wow, it was touching.
Loved The Thirteenth Tale by Diane Setterfield, too.
The Glimmer Palace by Beatrice Colin was good as well.
My book blog (in siggy) might have something that sparks your interest. Happy reading!
Another Wally Lamb book that's sad is The Hour I First Believed. There are a couple of female lead characters though neither is really the protagonist.
Re: Recommend a book for me, please
its kinda historical-the main character is loosly based on a female figure from history. Sad and female empowering-one of my fav books
The Red Tent by Anita Diamant

Things I want my Daughters to Know - Elizabeth Noble
Anything by Christopher Moore makes me LOL, it's easy reading.
I just finished Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell, and it was amazing, long, but every page was worth it.
Mists of Avalon is one of my favorite books of all time, a retelling of the Arthurian legend from the Women's perspectives. It's really amazing.
'A Piece of Cake' by Cupcake Brown.
It fits all your requirements. Female lead, sad (very sad, but has a nice ending), and is on the kindle.

Bastard Out of Carolina
The Heart is a Lonely Hunter
Both semi-sad (though BOC has it's very funny moments)
Time Traveler's Wife
The Way the Crow Flies by Ann-Marie MacDonald
Animal Dreams by Barbara Kingsolver
Those are 3 of my very favorite books ever, and they are all sad (in parts) and have female protagonists.
Oh yeah! This would be a great one! It's definitely long, and sad. I actually really love this book.
I just started "annie's Ghost" which may fit the bill...
(it's a *little* historical but...not really.

Fred, I will definitely get that book, too.
Loved that one, too.
