okay so this may sound silly but the only reason I can think of for the reason why my LO doesnt sleep good is that maybe I dont feed him enough? So, I am a first time Mommy and have NO experience with children let alone a newborn...He eats formula only (enfamil gentlease) he is a little over five weeks old and has been on this same schedule since he has been home from the hospital. He eats 4oz every 4 to 4.5 hours. He does not sleep for more than an hour and half at a time..NEVER falls asleep after a feeding, is always awake and alert. I tried to give him 5 oz yesterday but he seemed to spit up. (he rarely spits up) but he is fussy often...i try to keep him entertained...change his views, tummytime, sing, show him toys. He has not smiled yet and seems :grumpy: most the time. Do you think I starve him? Maybe when he is fussy he wants more food? Hell I dont know =( HELP!!
oh and he was born at 8lbs11oz and is now 11lbs5oz if that matters oh and he also has one bowel movement a day at the same time always between 6-7am
Re: am I starving my LO? *a bit long sorry*
Our little guy weighs about the same (but is 2 months old) and he eats 3-5 ounces every 3-4 hours during the day....and 4-5 hours at night. One BM a day...and also on gentlease.
I can tell when he is hungry though...he has a particular cry for that. If your LO is fussing, try to give him food and see what happens. Maybe he wants to eat more often, and not necessarily more at once.
I'm not a doctor or anything, but it sounds like he's fine!! Does he cry for more when he finishes the bottle? My DD only fell asleep after feedings for the 1st couple of weeks, and I find that its actually better when her routine is to stay awake for awhile afterward, because she won't "need" to eat in order to fall asleep. You might be overstimulating him and that could contribute to the fussiness. Also, DD didn't smile until 6 weeks.
Maybe you've read it, but I liked the Secrets of the Baby Whisperer book, it talks a lot about routines and how to tell what you're baby is trying to tell you/needs at the time. I found it helpful. Good luck!
