1st Trimester

What's your pet peeve (or major annoyance as the case may be)?

I love complete sentences, proper grammar, and appropriate punctuation.

Sometimes these boards make me want to shoot myself in the face.

Re: What's your pet peeve (or major annoyance as the case may be)?

  • Now is this related to these message boards only, or just general pet peeves?

  • Oooo...good one.

I absolutely abhor people who butcher the English language due to either a lack of caring, or lack of knowledge...especially adults.

A close tie to that - babies having babies....

kind of this... My pet peeve is when we're, where, were, wear are in the wrong context (they're, there, their, etc. etc. etc.) but I think that's because I'm a teacher.

  • Agreeing with you ladies on this one, grammar. It really rubs me the wrong way when someone can't spell things that are obviously easy...aka prolly instead of spelling out probably. Grrr...

  • I'm in agreement with you ladies regarding the grammar issue.  Not sure if I'll get flamed for this, but I judge people who say the word "agreeance."

I also don't like people that drive slow in the fast lane.  It's a problem here in Southern California :/

  • After seeing that everyone here, so far, is a grammar lover, I just had to put my own two cents in.  I agree with all of you.  I've taught English at the college level, and it makes me so sad to see the level of education that people have.  I do not understand how one can be in college and not only have atrocious grammar, but they cannot even write a short paper.

  • I agree with grammer. I also hate it when people type 'lol' after everything.
  • I have another... outside of the bump...

When a grocery store lists something as .99c instead of 99c, or $.99 I want to throw a penny at them and say "keep the change" (c = cents sign, I couldn't find one)

Hey, it's a problem everywhere!  Around here, people squeeze in front of you and then slam on their brakes.   Oh....and those who weave in and out of traffic, travelling at speeds of roughly over 100 mph.  I hate them...I wish them all horrible deaths.

  • I totally agree with the grammar!

My biggest pet peeve is businesses who have their open sign on when they are clearly closed.  I don't know why is bugs me, but I tend to yell at them as I drive by.

  • Pregnancy has made me a mean----easily agitated person.

I can't stand it when someone opens the car handle just as you unlock the door and it causes the door lock to jam.

I also can't handle when people THROW the car door open in a parking lot, disregarding if they hit someone else's car. I was always taught to hold onto to door as your open it so you can control where it lands. Someone did this to me a few weeks ago WHILE I WAS STILL IN THE CAR and I all but lost it on them.

Smokers who crowd at the entrance of a building. Why do you think I want to have to swim through your cloud of smoke to get into a building? Its really inconsiderate and it drives my m/s wild.

I'm sure I can think of more.

  • I pretty much agree with all of what has been said already :)

And this is little - I KNOW - but it does bug me that people don't know the difference between sex and gender.  ::shrug::

Going to get gigged on this one...but what IS the difference between sex and gender?! Embarrassed If it's in relation to babies!

  • My biggest pet peeve is when people eat loudly, or basically have no table manners at all.

Eat with your mouth closed, don't talk with your mouth open, don't smack your lips, and don't start chewing until the food in actually in your mouth!

    It drives me crazy!

  • I can't stand when people say "We're pregnant!"...umm unless you are a lesbian couple and both women are KU then no, only ONE of you is pregnant. You are, however, both expecting.

Sex is in reference to the actual parts - does the person have a penis or a vagina? Gender is more of a social construct - boys wear blue and like trucks, girls wear pink and like dolls kind of thing.

Like I said - it is a minor pet peeve :)

  • People that type all in caps. And when I turn into an Amazon when I'm pregnant.

  • Oh! And when women refer to their vulva as their vagina. It's baffles me.

  • People who type on message boards like it's a text message.

    OMG!!11!!! R U kidin? Tha is 4 relz!

  • The grammar issue bothers me a little, but I think my biggest pet peeve is words that aren't spelled correctly, especially if they are very simple words.

People who drive slow in the fast lane, especially if it's like 55-70mph with a 65mph speed limit, and when people crowd the highway and drive 45mph because it is drizzling and everyone gets confused for some reason.

People who ask how you are and then don't wait for your response.

People who cut in lines or constantly use the "excuse me?I'm in a rush" in restaurants and other service places and/or think their time is more valuable than everyone else's.

People who are rude or talk down to food service people-Hello!These people touch your food.

I could go on....I think I'm just getting very mean now that I'm pregnant :)

  • Text message speak of any kind. Of ANY kind!

When someone is clearly trying to type a word as if they were whining or holding out the word in speech, i.e. niiiice, and they choose a silent letter to type out incessantly, i.e. niceeeeeee. This is especially prevalent on Facebook lately and it drives me bonkers.

Baby related - my father-in-law's constant "I hope it's a boy" chant every time we see or talk to him and the baby comes up. One day that man is going to make me snap.

  • Bicyclists on the road and not on the sidewalk!  I don't care if it is the law.  They are in my way and do not act like a vehicle!

Snarky people on here.  Yes some posts annoy me and I think they are stupid but it's just the internet people.  You can move on without leaving a sarcastic comment.  It is possible.

People who let their phone ring forever in public before answering it.

Drivers who don't wave to say thank you if you let them in.

    Warsh!

Non-handicapped people parking in handicapped stalls.  (Oh I turn them in if I'm feeling hormonal)

Letting your child push the cart and then it crashes into me or my cart.

Oh I could list more.  This was like therapy!

  • Lurker here over at 1rst Tri, but this post seemed fun. PMS makes me irritable so...

    1.) Grammar as well.
2.) When smokers smoke on the highway and flick their still flaming  cigarette butts out their window. Then the flaming hot stub flies in my open window to burn me. I am a former smoker and FFS- I never did that! Ashtrays are wonderful thing. RE: smoking at the entrance of buildings- often that is where the smoking "area" is. Smokers aren't allowed to be anywhere else on some properties, but I hear you on that one.

3.) People who make this big effing deal of getting in front of you while driving only to stop at the next red light. I'm always thinking, "congrats A-Hole. You got to the red light first. Go you!"

  • When people say "I am 1 million percent sure", etc.   "Percent" literally means "out of 100",  so it annoys me when people say this because it makes no sense.  I understand they're trying to make a point,  but saying you're 100 percent sure is just as effective as saying you're 1,000,000 percent sure, IMO.

I also hate it when people spell "ridiculous",  "rEdiculous".  I see it on the boards all the time.

FYI-  I never correct people's grammar on here..   but you gave us a forum with this subject, so I let it out. :P

You would hate talking to my SIL.

She uses double negatives all the times, and says "don't got none" and "done gone to town", "I seen", etc.

It drives me up the wall.  She also does not seem to know the difference between your and you're.

She comes by it honestly, though.  Her parents talk the exact same way.

And maybe this is flameful, but I tend to judge people who don't use proper grammer.  They come across as dumb hicks.

  • My husband...lately he irritates the HECK out of me..I know he means well...but he is my biggest pet peeve...I can't wait til all these hormones level out.
