Babies: 3 - 6 Months

Do you bathe with LO?

My friend has a 6 month old LO who has outgrown his infant tub but it is still not big enough to sit in the big tub alone.  Their solution is for either my friend or her DH to bathe with the baby.  However, she insists whoever is going to do it wear a bathing suit.  I find that odd.  What do you think?

Re: Do you bathe with LO?

  • Does she give a reason for wearing a bathing suit? I find that odd as well.

  • Which part is weird - bathing with LO or wearing a suit?

That's the only way that C has gotten a bath at home - with DH or I in the bathtub with her (no swimsuits though).  It seems WAY easier to me than leaning over the tub.

  • My husband and I have both bathed with my son and I def didnt wear a bathing suit, lol.  I think once they are able to name the parts then maybe cover up, but for now it's all innocent bath time fun.

  • To each their own. If she's more comfortable wearing a suit, go for it.

I take baths with my LO once in a while, and I'm fully nekkid. I probably won't do it once he's older than a year, though.

  • My LO bathes in big tub and loves it.  I fill it just a tad and have a mat so hes on his tummy and holds up his head. He has a blast!  I even let him roll so his face gets wet and understands his head needs to be up.  We did start "swimming" at 3 weeks and he's been in love ever since.

I do bath w/o LO, but at his age, don't worry about the swim suit thing.  Probably at like 1 or so I'll stop, but til then, its so easy to put him in the tub with me when i'm in a hurry and he likes it too.

  • Huh?

A bathing suit?  Are they afraid of what the baby might see?

No we don't bathe with DD, she's still in the sink, although she's starting to splash a lot so I guess we both get wet at bath time

  • meh I dont think the suit is necessary, however I do not bathe with Jack.  I cant figure out the logistics of holding him, and washing him at the same time.  I would think he'd get rather slippery and a one handed hold just wouldnt cut it!  We bathe Jack in the sink right now, because he cant sit in the tub yet, but is too big for his sling that goes in the tub.  Its awkward but it works

  • I bathe w/ LO all the time -- no swimsuit.
  • Thanks ladies. My friend was horrified that I would bathe with DS naked.  I am in agreement, before a year is totally fine.  After that, we'll reassess.

  • Im too afraid of getting pooped on. But my friend and her DH take their LO in the shower with them b/c he is terrified of the bath.

    My thought exactly.

  • I've done it twice.  It's not easy!  He's slippery.  It's only been in the two instances where I needed to bathe and so did he before we left so I had DH bring him in for a quick wash to avoid the time it would take to fill up his tub.

And about wearing a bathing suit...considering DS is more up close and personal with my boobs than DH is right now, I don't think it would matter!

  • I bathe w/ DS all the time, no bathing suit. I won't as he gets older & recognizes parts.

  • I"ve never bathed with DS, it's just not something I'd do.

I don't see the big deal if she wants to wear a suit. People have all different levels of what they feel is appropriate. If it works for her and her DH that's great.

  • I have never bathed with LO, but my DH did once (he did not wear a suit). I don't because I'm afraid he'll poop on  me :)
  • I bathe with LO all the time, although I haven't done it recently just because it's sometimes easier just to bathe her separately. I enjoy taking a bath with her and I've tried to get DH to take a bath with her, but he's uncomfortable with the idea. So, we'll just have to take her swimming this summer!

  • I bathed with LO once and he was terrified the whole time.

I hope it wasn't my boobs.

He loves his Eurobath though, and always has. I think it's because he is cradled from all sides in it, and because he can see me.

  • I have bathed with DS a couple of times (I usually put him in his own bath) When I bathed with him..I put a couple inches of water and laid him on this mesh bath seat so I didn't have to worry about him slipping. I'm definetly not worried about wearing a bathing suit.

  • bathing with LO- not odd

    bathing suit- very odd

  • I only bathed with DS1 when he was having serious "I hate baths" issues and I was naked and I did not feel comfortable being naked in the bath with him, but I would have felt ridiculous if I was wearing a swimsuit!

  • I take a bath with Lilly every night as part of her bedtime routine...I don't wear a swim suit.  If DH were ever to give her the bath other than me, he would, because he wouldn't feel comfortable otherwise.

  • I've never bathed with DD.  No reason why, just haven't.  What ever each person feels comfortable with is fine with me.  It's a personal choice.

  • Yep! Almost every day in fact! I get up in the morning at the same time as him and then after I feed him I really want to bathe. Since I'm home alone I take him in there with me. He lies on my chest facing away from me and kicks his legs and is generally happy for 45 mins! It's great. No swimsuit needed.
