I asked this on 0-3 months, but I think I may have worded it wrong b/c I dont think I got answered. When I go back to work next monday, the babysitter will be giving LO 3 bottles of formula during the day from 8am-4pm. All other times I want to continue breastfeeding LO. My 2 questions are will I still be able to breastfeed LO, or will my supply completely diminish (I do not plan on pumping at work) and also will my boobs stop leaking during the day when my supply adjusts?
thank you for any help!!
Re: help me with supplementing& BFing ?
Have you started giving formula now and cutting out those daytime feedings? 1 week will NOT be enough time to drop 3 feedings and not leak/be horribly engorged. You are probably going to need to pump at least once during the day.
As far as your supply/being able to keep bfing...it will depend. I've been able to bf morning and night and not pump for 2 months now, but that was when my DS was a year old that I dropped pumping. You may last for awhile, but maybe not forever....but it will honestly just depend on your body.
I have been replacing at least 1 feeding with formula for about a week now and I was going to try to increase it this week as well. Will hand expressing a little at work during the day help me? This is going to sound stupid, but how can i gauge my supply? how do I know if LO is getting anything when i try to feed her??
I'd probably get a cheap hand pump just in case....hand expressing may work, but I'd had for you to get stuck at work and be miserable.
Your LO will let you know if she's not getting anything, at least my DD did as I weaned her. Plus I stopped feeling the 'let down' etc as much. But she would pull off, get mad when she was sucking, be hungry again right away, etc....but not like when they cluster feed. You just sort of 'know'.
