Trying to Get Pregnant

Allergy Sufferers

Since many allergy medications tend to be bad for CM is there anything anyone has taken that helped them w/o the CM side effect?

I get really bad seasonal allergies and the only thing that usually works in Claritin-D, but I don't want to mess up anything with TTC.

Any suggestions would be great! TYIA

Re: Allergy Sufferers

  • I take 2 Claritin's every morning (for chronic hives) and it doesn't affect my CM at all. Everyone is different though.

  • I use Dr Neil's sinus rinse. Not medication so no worries with that, but it flushes all the pollen/dust out of my nose.
  • I take a tablespoon of local honey in the morning to deal with seasonal allergies.

  • It is the decongestant in the Claritin-D that is drying up your CM.  Have you tried taking regular Claritin?  I take Zyrtec (regular, not D)when my allergies are bad and  suplement with Sudafed as needed and as little as possible around O time.

Trying drinking lots of water. That helps with CM a lot.

I use this too.  It is great for clearing you out.

    I've heard of that!

Where do you find local honey? Have you noticed a big difference?

BTW OP- I take Aller-Tec...(Cetirizine) which is Costco's brand of Zyrtec. No CM side effects. No sleepy side effects, etc. OK for TTC.

  • I have prescription Flonase (sp?) for years. I've never had any problem with CM, in fact just the opposite.

  • Thanks!

Maybe just limiting around O would help and changing to a non-decongestant would be OK.

I think I will try the rinse too. That's a good idea!

I never heard of the honey. I will have to look into that.

  • The honey was suggested to me by my chiropractor. He explained it helps with flower/pollen/grass allergies b/c the bees are pollinating the local flowers, so you start to build up the antihistamines from the honey they make.

I haven't tried it but i found it at local health food or natural stores.

ETA- maybe it's histamines you build up Smile

  • I posted this on someone else's question about allergies, but I take Stinging Nettle supplements and they have worked wonders for me. I take 3 capsules/day and I have had no allergies since I've been taking them. I was really bad prior to finding these and nothing worked, even double doses of Benadryl would just make they symptoms lessen but not go away.

I love Stinging Nettle, I've had no other bad side effects, but they aren't considered safe for pregnancy-they're not not safe, and some more holistic-natural-midwife type websites actually recommend them, but they just have not been tested enough to be safe so I'll give them up once I'm pg.

I also try to eat a lot of raw local honey, it definitely is a good idea, and delicious!

  • We have a local farmers market that sells local honey.  I dont need to do it but for a few weeks during the year.  At first its not a problem but I dont like sweets so it can get old fast.  It works just as well as my Allegra did.  We also use this trick when traveling and it works like a charm (when we can find the honey)

My grandparents do this.  How do you like it?  Can you tell a difference?  I have HORRIBLE allergies and if I miss my meds one or two days I will get a sinus headache and usually a sinus infection.

  • I use a Neti Pot 2 x a day, it really helps with allergies and if you have a cold.
