Babies: 3 - 6 Months

wow, lotsa health care hate

I usually keep my political views to myself, but seeing all the hate on this board is really starting to grind my gears.  Im all for having an opinion and all, but saying F-you to our president?  Regardless of like him or not, he's still the leader of our country.  I wasnt exactly keen on Bush, but I respected that he was in charge and left it at that.  (and personally I think thats part of the reason kids now have trouble respecting authority, because of what is modeled in society, btu that is a whole different argument)

My brother (whom I am guardian of due to his autism) also has Crohn's disease and is on medication that is $10,000 a month.  Literally.  Once he is off my mom's insurance, he would be uninsurable due to his preexisting condition.  That would mean that he would have to choose between paying 10k a month for meds or going off them, which will render him extremely ill.  I am personally doing a happy dance in the fact that it will be illegal to deny him coverage for something completely out of his control.

Please, flame away.  Im soooo ready for it.  All Im saying is before you write it all off, please think of people whose lives will be made better because of it.

  • I too think its a little ridiculous that people are hating on something that is saying no one should be denied the right of health care. So, you want people to die, thats awesome.  Most of the people complaining about it wont even feel a difference, and they are just hating because an old white dude didnt win again.

  • sorry to hear about your brother!  :(  I am all for everyone having health insurance, I just feel like this was a bad way to go about it.  The system is broken and needs reform, just not this reform.  I am afraid that healthcare is going to become like going to the DMV and that terrifies me.  I have insurance, thru my company (I work at a hospital actually) and we are all terrified of what this means for OUR choices in healthcare and OUR jobs.

On the flip side of this-my MIL also has Crohn's diease! She is on medicare and now the cost for her is going to change drastically bc of this bill passing. So I guess it depends on the person yet again! We will see how it pans out.

  • Well said, and I'm really glad this will help out your brother.

I happen to think a lot of people who are so mad about this won't be complaining when they -- or their family members -- reap the benefits someday.

Whoah, seriously?  You're bringing race into this?  REALLY?  I didn't like McCain, I don't like Obama.

And yes, we WILL feel a difference with even more tax money going out of our paychecks. Our kids will feel a difference.

Nowhere in the Constitution does it say that health care is a right.

What's nice about being in America is that we can say F-you to the president and not get thrown into prison for treason.

That being said, I hate politics and don't understand the healthcare bill enough to have an opinion one way or another on it.

This.  I'm not wanting to see people sick and dying in the streets, but it's a fact: If you have to take away from one to give to another, it's not a "right."

  • First of all I think it's so funny that you said grind my gears. Second off I totally agree that something needs to be done regarding healthcare. I just don't think this is it. And I did not join the military therefore I am not required to respect the president and I will still teach my child respect.

    this.

I think it's great everyone being able to have healthcare. Now no one spoke about the quality and how long it will take to get that heathcare. Free is not always "free" if you are paying with your health by waiting 3 months to get an appointment.

LOL this.  I keep thinking of Family Guy.

  • to all of you who LOVE to use the "socialist" angle, I'm wondering if you enjoy having a public library.

Because as you know, that would make you a socialist as well. I mean, come on, access to books is not a human right!

    insert eye roll here.

  • I have 3 friends whose babies were born with Downs.  2 of these 3 can not insure their child as Downs is a pre-existing condition.  Each of these people is upper to middle class with otherwise great health insurance.  They also happen to be conservative on the political specrum.  They are huge proponants of this bill.

I am liberal to the core so I was already for universal health care reform- the fact that these friends of mine also are supporters tells me that this really is a great step forward for many.  Including those who would otherwise be able to have healthcare but can not due to a pre-existing condition.

This is really offensive.  I don't like Obama, but that doesn't mean I voted for McCain b/c he's white!  Thats ridiculous.  People need to stop throwing in the race card for EVERYTHING!!!  And don't even try to call me racist...DS is just like Obama...half black, half white..

Im not seriously bringing race into it as an issue, its a given fact that McCain is both old, and white, so why cant I state it? So I suppose I was trying to be satiracle, it failed. I didnt mean to call anyone a racist, but I do find it funny that in ANY situation if you say white/black its deemed as offensive. Sheesh.

  • If I could insert the little "thumbs up" I would.
  • I also think it funny that people don't realize we are already paying a ton for poor people's health. Now they just go to the ER and we pay an exorbitant fee for it. DH works at a county hospital, almost all of his patients are already getting "free" (ie: paid by taxes) health care. It will be cheaper in the long run if they can get preventative care instead of going to the ER for the flu.

I never mentioned that and I never called you or anyone racist. Don't put words, well, letters on my screen. Again, McCain is white, Obama is black. Its not news, and its common knowledge. I think its ridiculous that no one can say the color of someones skin without someone freaking out about it.

Since when did we get so pc that white/black became offensive? Its not like I called him a ***, or cracker.   If you were to describe a person to someone who has never seen them before, would you leave out the color of their skin? No. You would probably say something like "Hes a tall white dude with blonde hair, brown eyes, maybe about 190" ....in no way is that offensive.

And to prove my point- h-o-n-k-e-y was taken out of my post.

  • My perfectly healthy and normal pregnancy with Jasper was a pre-existing condition. The *only* insurance I could have gotten was through the state, and I was denied because I make more than poverty-level income.

I am now paying off the related bills. At my current rate of payoff, this will be done in 2 years. We're talking a normal vaginal birth. I shudder to think of what I would be paying if I had to have a cesarean.

I am posting this only as real-world information about my experience in state of healthcare in the US last year.

No no its alright. My apologies as well.  Its funny how the smallest thing can really get people going though huh? I think we all just need a good nap.

  • I haven't read all the posts because I don't have time, but I just wanted to say that while I completely agree that something needs to be done about health care in this country, I do not feel that the current bill or whatever it is now is not the answer.  There are many things in it that I disagree with.  Also, I am concerned with how our government will run it when they have made such a mess of Medicare.  They don't have a very good track record with these kinds of things.

  • I'm not sure how I feel about the health care bill, but thank you for putting it in a positive light. I do believe that it will do some good (hopefully) and this is a great example of where it will help.
