Babies: 3 - 6 Months

Working mom's... how did you prepare your LO for daycare?

My DS will be 3 months & 3 weeks old when he goes to daycare. It will be in a woman's home with other children. Actually, its my old babysitter! :) She's in her mid 50's now. Anyway, what can I do to help make it easier on him? I can give him attention/get him when he cries w/o a second thought but when there are other kids involved he may have to wait sometimes. I hate thinking about him crying bc he won't understand...

TIA!

  • I found that DS had no issues starting daycare - an in-home situation as well. The only adjustments I had to make were putting him down for a nap pretty much as soon as we got home. He doesn't nap as long there, so he is pooped at the end of the day.

Ditto - DD is so interested in everything going on that she won't sleep very well at the daycare. The only real adjustment we had to make was bedtime and waking times. I started that about a week before she started going.

  • I didn't do alot to prepare DD for daycare.  She actually really enjoys it.  It's not an in-home, its at my work.  The daycare only allows 8 babies at a time and not all of them are there everyday, so she gets a ton of personal attention.  I think I really am the one that needed to get prepared.  It was harder for me then it was for her.  Your LO will be fine and will get used to the situation... being so young, they are troopers.  Plus daycare has been awesome for us. DD never even slept once in her crib until she started going to daycare.  They have gotten her on a nap schedule and she loves the crib now.  :)  Good Luck to you!

This exactly! I didn't really do anything to prepare my daughter for daycare. Her first day, they told me she was their happiest baby (she's generally happy at home, too). I, however, cried the rest of the way to work. Your baby will be fine. It's the mommies that have a hard time with it.

  • I slowly got him used to self-entertainment with his playmat or walker or the swing. Also, he did not like bottles so as hard as it was not to just nurse him, I pumped and gave him bottles to get him accustomed to it. Also napping while there was noise going on too. Like having the TV on discovery health with lots of kids voices. I also prepared the babysitter for him by letting her know that he is needier than some babies and ok'd it for her to use my front carrier so she could still be hands free and hold him if he was having a really rough day or something.
