allergies suck

Maddie's allergies are out of control.  Does anyone give Claritin or Zyrtec to their toddler?  If so, can you give anything else (ie Benadryl)?  I can't see how Claritin/Zyrtec works for 24 hours.

  • According to my allergist... yes you can.  (give Benedryl after you've given Claritin/Zyrtec.) I normally take Zyrtec on a daily basis... and take Benedryl if I have a flare up that is 'more than normal' and have no issues.  He's told me the same goes for K (who takes Zyrtec also, daily) but I haven't had a need to do that yet.  I certainly will though if her allergies are out of control!

  • We give Bella Zyrtec.  I didn't know you could "layer" the Benadryl on top of the Zyrtec.  We've just been doing the Zyrtec in the morning (since it's a 24-hour med).

That's good to know!   Our pedi just put Mason on Zyrtec on a daily basis last month and some days I think he needs a little extra.
