Babies: 0 - 3 Months

When did you start putting LO to bed earlier?

When we first had DD, she went to bed about 11pm.  Now she goes to bed sometime between 9:30 and 10pm.  She is starting to get crabbier at night so that makes me think she needs to go to bed earlier, so last night she was in bed by 9pm.  She STTN and was up at 5am, then back to bed and is still asleep now.  I am always hearing of people putting their LO to bed at 7 or 8pm.  Should I be starting this now or is it just a personal choice?

Re: When did you start putting LO to bed earlier?

  • I start putting my guy down around 8 because he does get crabby at night time and I'd like some alone time with DH.  He does end up waking up around 3 am and wanting to play now though.  I think bed time really is a personal choice.  We don't have a routine or anything, just try to get him down around the same time every night.

  • When I go back to work next month, I'll be working 4 10.5 hr days, so I won't be home until 7:30. We decided to keep DD up later so I can spend time with her when I get home. We don't follow any set schedule anyway... we follow her lead at this point,
  • I wonder the same thing.  DS goes to bed with us sometime between 1030 and 11.  He sleeps until around 730 or so.  I like that schedule but ultimately know he needs to go to bed earlier, I dont want him waking up during the night so this is what we have been doing so far....

I selfishly do not want her to go to bed too early, for fear she will wake up even earlier.  I'm with you on this one, but I feel guilty keeping her up.

  • If we don't get the baby to sleep by 8pm or so, she gets very overtired and difficult to put down.

  • LO was going to be at his own time, anywhere from 9 pm to 11pm, this was the first few weeks. Now we give him a bath around 7:30 or 8, then DH gives him a bottle of pumped BM, then we put him to bed awake or not at 9, he will put him self to bed with in a few minutes.

Although, we do get up tp feed between 1 and 2, then 5 am, I feed him then change him then put him down, again he will put him self to bed in about 10 minutes if hes not super sleepy.

Some days this is easier than others, he still likes to do his own time sometiems.

  • I am having an issue with this as well.  He does seem to need to go to sleep earlier now though i have been holding out with the 10PM bed time so that he wont wake up too early.  I am going back to work in a couple of weeks and then REALLY dont want to wake up in the middle of the night but I am thinking he does need to go to sleep earlier.  Ah... what to do.

  • DS started going to bed earlier on his own. Now he is ready for one last feeding around 7 and he eats just enough to fill his belly and is out like a light no later than 7:30 or 8:30. He does wake up very early but I have to get up early and feed him before work (I work at 7 am and know he would rather nurse than take a bottle so he is now on my schedule and I get up with him about 4:50 or sooner every morning.)
Since we have to get up so early and I'm exhausted, I go to bed with he does otherwise I won't get much sleep. He has been STTN for the past week.

  • I let DS set his own schedule. Previously, he went to bed between 11pm and midnight. These last few days he's started getting super sleepy/cranky between 7-8 pm.  If I put him down then he'll sleep until 11pm-12am before he wants to eat again and then he'll usually eat once more around 4 and then gets up for the day around 7 am.
  • Ariana usually goes to bed around 8-9 & wakes up around 230-3 & is sleeping till 630-7 now. She slept all day yest since she wasn't feeling well I'm surprised she slept lastnight! We go to dr @ 245 hope to see you later this week!!
