Babies: 9 - 12 Months

when did you start finger foods?

I didn't start DS on solids until he was 6 mos., so he's just now getting the hang of eating. I can't imagine he'll be ready for anything besides purees or mashes very soon, but maybe he's behind the times. So, when did your LO start finger foods? TIA!

Re: when did you start finger foods?

  • we started L @ 7 months when she started showing signs she was ready for it. we started w/ puffs to see if she could get the hang of picking up the food and feeding herself.. she wasn't..so we waited a few weeks and then she was suddenly a pro so we started introducing new foods... and now she just had her first turkey dinner last weekend.. :)

  • We started around 7.5 or 8 months with puffs.
  • Just now really starting them.  Most of it ends up on his lap or the floor!  We do mostly purees still at this point.

  • DS was really interested when we were eating and when he started to munch his jaw up  & down, we decided to give a broken up Cheerio a try one day.  He loved it!  At first we were feeding it to him and letting him "play" with them because he wasn't getting much success getting it in his mouth to stay - but a few short days later, he did it for Grandma.  A week later he suddenly was a pro overnight.

He loves when we give him finger foods now.  We just bought puffs.

So he was about 8 or so months when we introduced them & is loving them at 9 months.
