i decided to just wait it out until 6 months. so my plan was that at meals i'm going to give him little food things to play with and practice his pincer grasp, and maybe even give him a tiny bit of water or breastmilk in a cup to practice with.
so...tonight at dinner i gave him some cheerios to play with and after a minute of playing with them he picked one up with his pincer grasp and put it into his mouth!! he's never done that and i didn't think in a million years that he'd figure it out in a minute! (i obviously took it away since he has no teeth)
so....now i'm just going to give him spoons and things like that to play with i guess! haha!
Re: f/u to starting solids before 6 months
They learn quickly!
You could always do puffs since they dissolve quickly. They actually chew with their gums so no worries on the no teeth (although cheerios kinda scare me as an early finger food since they are harder and not as melty as puffs).

Ditto that they don't need teeth. My DS is just getting his top teeth now at 11 months, so the majority of the time we've done BLW he's had no teeth or just the two bottom ones which don't do much anyway. In the past week he's eaten lasagna, bagel, meatball, asparagus, zucchini, quesadilla, breaded chicken, etc.
If you're really concerned you can try puffs, but honestly the cheerios dissolve pretty well and there is limited chance of choking because of the hole in the middle. :-) Initially my son would put them in his mouth, suck on them and then spit them out. He did that with most foods for the first two months we tried solids!
