MIL watched DS while we went to lunch and out shopping today. We were gone 4 hours, and left right after DS got up from a nap, so it had been about 2 hours since he last ate.
I walked in the door, and MIL is feeding DS water. He had only eaten 2 oz of milk while we were gone . "He likes water better. He didn't want milk."
I look again, and she is using a medela bottle with a ventaire nipple and ring. DS is sucking frantically on the nipple. Ventaire bottles have no vent on the nipple, so he has quite a vacuum going. Of course he was fussing about eating, he couldn't get anything out. I FREAKING LEFT HER A VENTAIRE BOTTLE PUT TOGETHER!
DS has reflux. "He hasn't spit up at all for me." Well, idiot, what would he spit up? You haven't fed him anything!
I took DS and fed him, and he ate 6 oz. He normally will only take 4 oz at a time.
Grrr...and to think I made DH buy flowers for her while we were out.
Re: Grr, my MIL...vent...
OMG... not ok. Wow.
Have you ever even given him water? What was that all about?
I really would have freaked out. My ILs are coming in a few weeks, and I work from home. I only have to go in to the actual office 1 day/week and usually DH works from home that day so he can watch DS.
They are going to do it while they're here. I am dreading it, and so nervous already. Oy.
In my bag: Canon 60D, 50mm 1.4, Tamron 28-75 2.8, 430exii
That and rice cereal. Thank god the rice cereal is hidden in a cabinet (we only have it because I tried DS on it for reflux about a month ago).
Unfortunately, I can not hide the water faucets from her.
No, we never give him water. Honestly, with the reflux, we are very careful to make sure he gets enough breastmilk since a lot of it comes back up. I don't want water filling his tummy.
I wouldn't be so freaked about a small amount of water, like maybe a half oz. But she had 3 oz in that bottle when I poured it out!
Well, she's only 56 and still works full time in an investment firm, so I won't let her have that excuse.
Oh yes, its amazing that my DH survived and is an incredibly successful, intelligent engineer. We sometimes joke that if not for MIL, he could have been smarter than Bill Gates.
We have to hide or freeze all the BM in the fridge when my mom comes over or she will seriously have a bottle in LO's mouth the whole time she is with him.
And then she will say "he was so good for me the whole time!" Of course he was. You were feeding him the whole time.
My poor LO. 8oz of food in the space of 3 hours. No wonder he cried all evening on Friday.
What is *wrong* with these people?
Maybe we need to switch. Mine under feeds and yours overfeeds!
My MIL was wanting us to do the same thing, and give him cereal right when we brought him home. But we do give him some water here and there to help soften things up downstairs.
But, they did all of these things with us, and we lived. Amazingly enough. Im sure when our babies have babies things will be 100% different again and they will be saying the same things about us.
Maybe I just have a fat kid, M eats 9 ounces.
My MIL was shocked when I said no water. She said the hospital used to hand out little bottles of water to them before they went home with their newborns.
