Spotting--TMI-- and sorry, I know it's been covered before

But, when it happens to you...it's scary!

Over the last 24 hours, I have been (very lightly) been spotting brown on TP and a little on my panties.  I'm way past the "implantation" stage, so I know it's not that.

What causes it?  I "hear" it's normal, but it freaks me out!  If this has happened to you, what was the outcome?

 Thanks, ladies!

  • I had spotting with my first pregnancy at 6 weeks and everything turned out fine. I had some with this one now and my OB said it's all related to implantation this early on.

Could be an irritated cervix since your hormones are changing. Brown is old, try not to worry but mention it to your doc in your next appt. Mine was caused by the Progesterone suppositories.
  • I've been spotting off and on my whole pregnancy so far.  As of last week, everything still looked good with the baby.  Initially, they thought my bleeding was from a small subchorionic hematoma, but they didn't see it on any subsequent ultrasounds.  Now they aren't sure what is causing it. Sometimes it is not explained.  As long as you aren't bleeding lots, and it isn't red, or accompanied by severe cramping, it is likely okay.  I know how terrifying it is, though!  Give your Dr. a call Monday.  If nothing else, they can give you some reassurance.  And if it turns red or you start cramping a lot, call the on call Dr. this weekend!

  • Thank you all.  It's helpful to know others made it through :)
  • I had a tiny, tiiinnnyyyy bit of brown discharge this morning when I wiped (post baby-dancing with DH). It worried me a little, but I figured maybe he shook something loose because it was brown. I'm assuming all is fine. I still have all my symptoms, and I go to the Dr for my first appointment monday, so i'm thinking all is well in there. Good luck with your spotting!

  • With DD I had brownish spotting several times and they said it was due to a subchorionic hem.  With this pregnancy I had a LOT of bleeding with tissue and everything and so far our little bean is doing just fine.  Dr. said it may have been a twin!  I am just glad we have one healthy little bean and am anxiously awaiting our next US and check up!

  • Sorry...didn't finish :)  Brown blood is old blood so don't fret over it, especially if it's so little.  Call your Dr. and let them know on Monday they will advise you if they typically do anything for this scenario.  I hope all is well, good luck!

  • I can totally relate to oyur situation. I have been spotting since week six and i'm at 8 now. It started as implantation bleeding, but now it goes back and forth from brown to red. It was so red and more than I've seen the other day that I completely freaked out. I've been back and forth to my Dr b/c of it and they are telling me eveything is great with my LO. I've seen the heartbeat 3 times now and it's amazing everytime! They told me this happens to 25% of woman in their 1st Tri and sometimes it's just unexplainable. So, try and relax and don't stress~NG for you or your LO. hope that helps a bit:)

PS Also,,it can happen often after you have a BM, At least it does with me.

  • i am 8 weeeks and i have had light spotting pretty much since weeks 5.mine came after intercourse and sometimes first thing in the morning doc said its fine as long as no horrible cramps come with the bleeding and the bleeding is not bright red.
  • I had spotting twice: once from the pap, and once from sex.

I also had full on red blood bleeding at 14w. They don't know what caused it. My doc just said that things are really sensitive and swollen up there and the smallest thing can cause bleeding.
