Babies on the Brain

My mom is insane, and somehow this is my responsibility

to look up whether my sister, who is 17 weeks pregnant, can get a pedicure. Confused

I have googled and found that most sources say it's perfectly fine, just try to make sure the salon has good ventilation.

This is such a Tuesday question, but I don't want to get on my mom's bad side.  Tell me it's ok?

Re: My mom is insane, and somehow this is my responsibility

  • The fumes drive me insane in a non-ventilated salon when not pg, but other than that, there's nothing wrong with it.

  • I went SEVERAL times while pregnant.... and I have a perfectly healthy little boy.  My OB had no objection to me going, well-ventilated or not.

  • Supposedly there is some bone in the ankle that when you put pressure on it just right, it can stimulate contractions.  Personally I think its bunk.  But everything I have read says just tell them you are pregnant and they'll avoid your ankles.

And I had a pedicure at 32 weeks and was fine.

  • My OB said it was fine, but recommended I bring my own Sally Hansen nail polish.  Apparently they are a formaldehyde free formula.

I also bring my own toold (cuticle trimmer, pumice stone, etc.) but that is because I had a HORRIBLE experience once at a different salon that gave me a nail fungus.  So now I always bring my own tools, just in case.

    Sadie is not impressed.

It's called the Spleen 6 pressure point area. It's 4 fingers width above the inner ankle, close to the shin.

    It's very real and works.
