How would spell "a lee see ah"

I love the name "a lee see ah" but when it is spelled "Alicia", a lot of people pronounce it "A lee Sha".

Tx!

Re: How would spell "a lee see ah"

  • I've always thought it was the same spelling, but you just have to be resolved to correct people on how to pronounce it.

I went to college with an Alicia who pronounced it like you want to.

  • you would spell it Alicia, and just correct people who said it wrong.

Alisha is pronounced "A lee Sha".

  • My name is Alicia. I'm an "A-lee-sha" but I've been called "A-lee-see-ah" or even "A-lish-ah." I just correct people when they mispronounce my name. That being said, one of my best friends also spells her name the same as me, but she's "A-lish-ah." And, I know an "A-lee-see-ah" who also spells her name that way.

I find that depending on where people are from (my French-speaking great-grandparents always called me "A-lee-see-ah" for example, but then again, they usually spoke to me in French), or if they have an association with the name before knowing me (my BF's family called me "A-lish-ah" for years before finally getting it right), they will automatically pronounce it one way until corrected.

  • I agree with Alicia. It's how Alicia Silverstone pronounces her name.

  • I've always thought it was "Alicia"

There's an "a-lee-see-ah" in my daughter's class and she is Alicia.

    I love that name :)

  • I hate this name, because there are so many ways to spell it.  I know Alycia, Alisha, Alicia, Aliciya, Aliciya... And probably soem other variations that I can't remember.  Too many parents getting "creative".
  • I am Alicia, pronounced "A-Lee-Sha". In one of my college classes, my professor had three Alicia's in his class. A-lee-sha, A-lish-a and A-lee-see-a" On the first day he told us he hated us all. :)

Alisia might be an option? I dunno. It would avoid people saying the "sh" sound because "si" doesn't make that sound.

  • As pp have mentioned, there are 3 ways to say Alicia. They are all valid pronounciations: A-lee-see-ah, A-lish-ah, and A-lee-sha.

My favorite is your pronounciation. I think, that if you choose this name, you just need to be prepared to correct people. (It's a beautiful name, and I wouldn't let that bother me!) FWIW, Spanish speakers would say "A-lee-see-ah.

Alicia.  I can't imagine another spelling that would work without being a crazy letter concoction.

    I prefer the spelling Alesia.

The only girl I knew whose name was pronounced the way you want it was spelled like this.  But a lot of people would mispronounce it as "a-lee-sha" anyway.
