Would you leave at 3am, after some sleep? Letting LO sleep as long as possible in the car after that. Or leave at LO's bedtime and hope they STTN and letting DH drive as long as he can while you sleep? Or another option?
When I read this, my first thought was: "no way!" LOL!
I guess it all depends. Does DS sleep well in the car? If so.....I guess if one of you can stay awake enough to safely drive at night, try leaving at DS's bedtime overnight.
Otherwise......I would drive during the day, get somewhere around dinner and stay at a hotel. Then, wake up in the morning and continue driving.
We drove from Michigan to Maine with DS#1 (WTH were we thinking???) when he was around 10 months old and I will NEVER do anything like that again.
We won't be taking long road trips until our boys are older......just not fun.
If you leave at 3 am you run the risk of totally jacking him up. If I woke mine up at 3 am there's a good chance they'd stay awake for a while.
***ETA: Is there someone on the other end to help with the little man once you arrive so you guys can grab some z's or were you just going to trade off driving to avoid becoming over fatigued?
And... is there any chance one of the 2 of you can grab a nap the day you plan to leave?
Our IF journey: 1 m/c, 1 IVF with only 3 eggs retrieved yielding Dylan and a lost twin, 1 shocker unmedicated BFP resulting in Jace, 3 more unmedicated pregnancies ending in more losses.
Total score: 6 pregnancies, 5 losses, 2 amazing blessings that I'm thankful for every single day.
My BFF drives from MD to SC overnight with her three children. I think she may be crazy, but that's how they roll. They leave right before bedtime and I think she may even skip naps so that they're good and conked out. Her kids are 2, 3 and 9. She's been doing this since they were born. It gives them 12 hrs of sleeping drive time and only 7 with them awake. BFF sleeps when the kids are then takes over so her DH can sleep.

We took a 20 hour car trip last summer with DS (15 months) We left around 5. We stopped at 630-7 for a dinner, play around in the grass. Got his PJs on, Rocked him, put him in his seat, and gave him his sippy of milk. We got going again, and made it to our destination by lunchish! We stopped in the AM for a dinner, and to dress DS, let him play, ect.
It IS long, but better to drive overnight and have fewer hours in the car when he is awake.
