Several (probably dumb) charting questions

So, I've read TCOYF, I use FF, but I feel like I'm missing something. Y'all are a wealth of information, so here goes.

We've been TTC for about 6 months. Starting out, we didn't do anything "special" to predict timing, but after a few cycles started using OPKs and this cycle, started charting my BBT. My cycles are regular, give or take a day, and I've had positive OPK tests. But for charting, my temps haven't had any noticeable spikes to show I O'd. Since we were charting, I skipped OPKs this month, so who knows, maybe it didn't happen this month. I use a BBT from Target-should I try a different brand? As for the signs to track, I'm just monitoring temp and casually paying attention to CM. Is it really important to track all the other assorted signs?

Because my phone freaked out on me mid-post, ETA: So like I said, probably dumb questions, but I guess I'm just not sure if I'm doing things "right." Even though I also know doing everything "right" won't neccessarily get me k/u. When it comes to this, it just seems like patience is a virtue I'm not bestowed with.

Re: Several (probably dumb) charting questions

  • I charted temp, BBT and CM (did all three exactly for the reason above... i.e., that the one thing I charted might be off one month and I wouldn't have anything else to look to know if I Od.

These are the only things I charted and should be sufficient. Are you having good quality and quanity of CM around the time of O? If not, I suggest using pre-seed, keeping VERY hydrated, limiting caffinated drinks and adding in decaf green tea... that seemed to work for me.

  • Could be a number of things. Are you really disciplined about when you are temping and making sure that you are doing it very first thing before even sitting up? Did your CM align with when you thought you might have O'd? How long was your cycle?

You can track as many signs as you want, depending on how thorough/crazy you want to be about it. I started not monitoring anything and by the end was tracking temps, using OPKs, recording CM and CP, the whole schebang.

Do you have a link to your chart?

    Dear Bump: You suck.
  • Ditto the above, but remember that you have to temp after at least 3 hours of solid sleep.  So if you wake up early for some reason, temp then and just note the time difference on your chart.

Paying more attention to CM might help you predict ovulation better than your previous temping charts. The temps are to show you your cycle pattern over time, where as the CM will immediately tell you when to get your groove on, so to speak.  It might take a couple of cycles before you really start start to recognize the patterns in the CM changes.  OPKs never ever worked for me.  It was all about the other stuff.

  • Chart is here: https://tinyurl.com/ybuqure. Cycles have averaged around 27 or 28 days, with + OPKs usually around CD 13 or 14. I take my temp pretty religiously at the same time each morning, unless I woke up earlier for some reason.
  • I think I can say fairly confidently that you did not O yet. This could be a random long cycle (it happens), or annovulatory.

Next month I would start OPKs on day 11 or 12 to see if you can get a little more info about what's going on.

    HTH, and good luck!!

(oh, and wanted to mention that these are definitely NOT dumb charting questions!)

    Dear Bump: You suck.
