I live in Eagan and DH and I have just started TTC. I am a major planner and would like to find an OB/GYN that I can be comfortable with. The paranoid person in me would like to find someone who delivers at United since I know that it had a NICU and is attached to children's.
Any recommendations?
Re: Doctor/Hospital Recommendation
I went to Allina OB/GYN in Eagan, and I can definitely tell you some that you should avoid... but I did see a few doctors there so if you're looking at someone specific, let me know, and I'll tell you what I thought.
United was a fantastic hospital and I loved it and would recommend it. I felt really comfortable because they had such a great NICU there, although, thankfully, we never had to use it.
I had some bad experiences... and I hate telling people to completely avoid a doctor. Just because I had a bad experience, probably does not mean that they are a terrible doctor.
Dr. Stephanie Callanan performed my c-section. She sees patients at Allina Woodbury, but delivers at United where I delivered. My actual c-section was beautiful, my scar is perfect and my baby is healthy. But she started cutting when they knew that my epidural wasn't working (it was NOT an emergency situation, they had time to give me alternate anesthesia). I don't know if this was her fault, I don't know if it was anyone's fault. But I do know that someone started cutting even after I said that I could feel the sharp pokes.
So like I said... she did a beautiful job on the surgery (even while I was screaming and puking). But it was pretty much a nightmare for me.
Dr. Patricia Huberty was the OB that I had throughout my pregnancy. I saw her at Allina Eagan. She is a really nice doctor. But I feel that some things got a little ignored toward the end. I had a pretty easy pregnancy, but I was measuring really small toward the end. There were a few other issues toward the end and I wish she would have paid a little more attention to them. She wasn't at the hospital at all during my labor/delivery, so I don't have any experience with her for that.
One doctor that was with me throughout most of my labor at the hospital (I was there and in labor for almost 24 hours) was Dr. Amy Miller, who I loved. She was so sweet and she took a lot of time with me every time she checked on me. She knew that my birth plan was important to me and that was great. I don't have any experience with her for prenatal care, but like I said, I really liked her during my labor. She helped me decide on a c-section toward the end and she was so great during the process. I looked her up and she sees patients at St. Paul.
Being that I have no medical experience, I don't feel super qualified to give recommendations based on ability. These were just my experiences with them. I might delete this later because I feel kind of bad giving bad reviews on doctors that might be perfectly fine otherwise. Like I said, this was just my experience with these doctors...
Honestly, I appreciate the opinions! I think that hearing your experiences can be a good indicator, though not necessarily the norm with a doctor (my family is full of medical professionals and they say getting other's opinions is the best way to start searching for doctors)
Thanks for the advice. I may check into Dr. Miller at the St. Paul Clinic (I work downtown, so it wouldn't really be a big deal).
I appreciate your feedback too. I've actually read some not so great reviews about both of those Drs. on review sites. Also some that were ok but not glowing, so good to know.
Have also heard really good things about Dr. Amy Miller.
