Multiples

How do you spend on Diapers a week?

I'm curious.  I have no idea what diapers cost a week for one, much less multiples.  And since we're toying with idea of me staying home, (well DH is toying and I've pretty much made up my mind, but I am waiting for him to get used to the idea) I need to have an idea on what the average baby costs to diaper.  We are planning to cloth diaper, but I need to know all possible outcomes, because as much as I want to do that, I know that it may or may not work out for us.

  • Here is how are first 3 months have been:

    1. Month 1- we averaged 9 diapers a day per baby, 18 diapers per day total which was 504 diapers per month.  We bought the Pamper Swaddlers Newborn which are 23.49 per box.  Total cost per month- about $150

    2. Month 2-3- we averaged 7 diapers a day per baby, 14 diapers per day total which was  420 diapers per month.  We bought Pampers Swaddlers size 1 which are 40.99 per box.  Total cost per month- about $82.

  • We CD our twins and DD, so we have 3 in cloth. I wash daily. I can't imagine what I'd be spending in diapers a week otherwise. It helped that I didn't have to buy the whole stash at once. We had DD's diapers so we just had to supplement those when the twins were born.

Ditto this! But around 3 mo. we switched diaper brands completely over to Kirkland brand (avail. at Costco)--it has saved us soooo much money! I thought it was really worth it to buy Pampers the first few months, but now we feel it's great to make the switch to generic. A 208 pack of size 3 diapers at Costco is like $30!! And if you use member coupons, it can be even less. And a 900 pk. of wipes is only about $20!

  • Cloth is definitely more expensive upfront, but worth the savings in the long run.

In the infant days, we were spending about $80/month to sposie DD.

It also depends on what brand or generic you buy.  Pampers and Huggies are more expensive than Luvs, which is more expensive than generics.

  • I just double checked--a 208 pk is $39 not $30 at Costco--but still a good savings deal!

  • I'm glad you asked this since I was wondering the same thing.  Especially after my CD post yesterday.  Thanks ladies!

  • we were using costco brand but have recently switched to target brand after all the rave revues around here. 96 diapers for $13.96. can't beat that. and they work! we STTN so they are in them for 12 hours and no leaks! so after you go through your baby shower diapers get target up and up if you dont go the cloth route.
  • I'd say we spend $30/week on Pampers Swaddlers.

After 2 rounds of IVF & 2 rounds of FET, we were blessed with identical twin girls!

  • I'm only commenting on brands/time frames since I've been through it all and back with two kiddos already before the twins. This is my plan: love Pampers Swaddlers so I will use those for a few months, maybe til six months. Then I will switch over to Target brand for the remainder of our diapering days. Target brand is awesome and the cheapest diapers I've found. They never leak and are very comparable to pampers but have no smells (frangrances). These are great for babies with skin allergies too since they contain no irritants and they have none of those "bubble bead" thingys if they did ever burst. I've tried all brands out and this is my top reccomendation!

  • i didn't keep track early on, but did pampers swaddlers.  10-12 per baby/per day.  so i say 25/day.  kept with swaddlers till they outgrew the 2-3size, and switched to costco's kirklands at size 3.  a box of 208 size 3s is $49.99 and lasts us about 2wks, so i'm doing about 14diapers/day.  approx $100/month.  switched to their wipes too.

  • I don't remember the early days, but for the first three months, I think it was about 16-18 diapers per day total.  Once we dropped the night feedings, it's gotten closer to 10 total diapers per day.

Part of your cost will depend on the brand you buy.  Sam's Club brand is cheapest, then Costco brand.

You could also cloth diaper and use a diaper service.  It might be cheaper.  I would consider that if we had a #3, and just use disposables when we're out and about.

It's more expensive online than in the store, because they factor in shipping.
