Success after IF

pjs for the hospital

I need to get my stuff together.  Wondering what kind of pj's I am going to want.  Everyone tells me I am going to be really hot after having the baby... and I dont typically wear pants to bed.  So I am thinking... a nightgown, a robe (to cover up for guests or walking halls), a couple of pairs of yoga/pj pants and some t-shirts should be more than enough????  Also, are nursing bras a must have... someone told me that sports bras were more comfortable.

Thanks in advance.

  • Honestly, not to be gross, but don't bring anything you don't want to get ruined. You will have a lot of bleeding after delivery and even wearing two of the giant pads doesn't keep you from leaking. I lived in the hospital johnnies the whole time I was in the hospital.

  • TMI ahead: To be honest I went naked most the time. If I had to walk the halls I wore my nightgown, but I didn't even put on a bra till I had to go home. Honestly you lose much inhibition/modisty after birth so you would be supprised how little clothing you need.
  • Honestly, I didn't wear pjs the first several nights in the hospital. (I had DS at 3am on a Saturday and was released on a Tuesday.) I would say the last night, I wore a night gown I had brought, other than that I was more comfortable in a hospital gown because I was in bed a lot and if I went walking, I put a second one on to cover the back. The day before I was released was the first time I put on a pj pant and a maternity tshirt.

  • I am a bra person. I can't go without one now that I am breastfeeding. I have had one on nonestop from the time she was born.  I even wore one during delivery.

I am not a pj person but I am glad I brought them.  There is a lot of up and down picking up the baby and going to the bathroom with people inthe room I was so glad I had pants and a top on and not the hospital gown that open in the back.  I did where the gown the first night but once I took a shower in the morning after I never put one on again.  I did bleed a lot but nothing leaked like people say it does.  I did wear dark pajama bottoms though.  I am also glad I brought nursing tanks even though I am chesty.  Not great support but helped hold them in enough laying round the hospital and I sleep in them now.

  • I wore the gown the whole time but I had a c/s and was not up & down too frequently except to walk to the bathroom & to walk the halls &then I just put the bathrobe on. It would've been a pain (literally & figuratively) to mess w/ PJ pants all the time, esp given all the bleeding. Ugh.
  • You'll need a nursing bra.  I love my sleep bras from Motherhood...I wear them all the time, and have for 4 months now. I would think a sports bra would be a pain for nursing.

My MIL bought me a nursing gown from Motherhood that I loved, and lived in after my c-section.

Other than that, I love my stretchy pj pants, but I didn't wear them at the hospital.  I only stayed two nights after my c-section, though.

Exactly this! I didn't want to ruin anything of mine so I lived in the hospital jonnies. While it wasn't fashionable I had just had a baby and wanted to be comfy.

  • I have a nursing nightgown for the hospital (I'm concerned about photos-vain I admit).  I plan on living in the hospital gown and just changing if I am expecting company.  If people see me in my hospital gown, I will survive.
