Babies: 0 - 3 Months

2 week old permanently attached? (how long?)

How long was your 2 week old permanently attached? It rarely goes three hours to be fed. It is like every hour and he feeds for an half to full hour each feeding. He is now switching from breast to breast to breast to breast. It almost seems like he has drained the well at times. I am not really frustrated about it today, just wondering will this ever end? Will I ever be hands free again....?

  • I started pumping so DH could help with feeding.

  • It definitely gets better.  DD still feeds every 2-3 hours during the day, but she only eats for 7-10 minutes.  I'd say it started to get better around 4-6 weeks.  Enjoy this time if you can.  I miss my little sleepy, cuddly baby.

  • It  gets better.  Normally around a month or so things get easier and by a few months they can play on their own for a while. . . The Happiest Baby on the Block was really helpful for me; it talks about stuff like this.
  • It gets better, but for the first month you are still building your supply so he is doing his job. I noticed it getting easier around 4 weeks (after the 3rd week growth spurt) and then another growth spurt (lots of eating) around 6 weeks.
