    I like it.  I'd go with the Gavin spelling.  Gaven makes me think Gay-ven, like Haven with a G.

    My cousin named her daughter Gavyn but she's rather odd.

    This is currently the only name DH and I can agree on so DS may be Gavin (spelled that way).  I'm sure it'll sound fine with your last name.  Our last name starts with a G but we think it's fine and will probably use it anyway.

    According to the Social Secruity website it's #30 (as of 2008) and has been moving up the list since 1999.
