Mama's with boys: Diaper Question

Ok fellow Mama's of those cute little men, I need some diaper help. It seems like we have tried almost every kind of diaper and we are still having leaking issues. Yes I remember to have his little boy part pointed down when I put a diaper on him. but seriously he goes potty all the time. Cheap diapers are a NO GO. We realized that when my Mom bought us tons of diapers when Ryder was first born. We used them because they were free, and diapers aren't cheap, but I have really become to see why although you save money when you buy them, you don't save money on all the laundry you have to do with leak problems. Plus it seems the cheap ones, with little boys, absorb at the top so the bottom of the diaper may not be as full as the waste line. Then it leaks out the top of the diaper and sometimes you get peed on without baby trying to. Like this morning, while warming up Ryder's bottle, I felt an awfully warm sensation on my side. And sure enough the waste line was soaked and the rest of the diaper wasn't.

Here are all the kinds we have tried:

Huggies
Pampers Swaddlers
Pampers 12hr leak protection
Rite Aid
Walgreens
WalMart

Are there any brands I am missing. Or a certain type in those brands to try? We haven't tried the Kirkland Costco brand yet and I have heard good things about those. We are going to be moving a diaper size too. So far the Pampers work the best and the Pampers 12hr leak seem to hold the best. Plus I like the feel of Pampers and Huggies. They are the softest and have the best moveable waste lines. TIA!

Re: Mama's with boys: Diaper Question

  • We have used Kirkland brand forever and have never had a problem, even overnight.

  • Since you have tried so many brands my guess is that you need a bigger size, or to change him more often.  We have only had the leak when it has been a long time since changing or the diaper was too small. Again make sure to point the pee pee down that helps.

I usually use Huggies or Pampers they seem to work best for us. I used to use Luv's and they were great until the last few months when R started to drink lots of milk and juice. The last box of Luv's we had leaks and were changing him almost every 2 or 3 hours.

  • I agree with Annette, that you might need to go up a size or change more often.  You shouldn't be having problems with ALL of those brands.  I always move Liam up a size as soon as he reaches the lower weight limit...and at night he wears an overnight diaper in one size bigger than normal.

I LOVE Target diapers...so cheap and work great!

  • I use Target brand and love them!  But I am with the previous poster who suggested moving up a size.  Blake is wearing 4's right now...but they keep everything in!

We still have some leaking at night because he is a tummy sleeper and everything goes to one spot, but not all the time.  He never leaks during the day though.

  • It could be that his cute little roly poly tummy is causing the top of the diaper to roll out, which is why the waist band area is leaking. Have you tried folding the top of the diaper in towards his tummy?

With Luke we used Kirkland and they were great.

  • I bet moving up a size will help.  We used Pampers until about size 3 then moved to Costco.  We did have to use the Huggie Overnights otherwise he would wet through.

  • We have had issues because Carter has very chunky legs, and a small bum. He is currently in a size 4 but moving up that one size made a huge difference. We have discovered that for us Pampers Cruisers work awesome and we just started using Up and Up (Target) and we are in love! I didn't think I would like them but the hubs and I both agree that they are fabulous!

  • Another Costco Diapers lover here! I also agree that moving up a size may help.

Yea he does have a little chunky belly on him now lol, so I will try that. Because mostly it's the wasteband that leaks. Even when we point his stuff down.

I was thinking about moving up a size as well, so glad you ladies suggested it. Funny thing is, we had this problem when he was a newborn and wearing a size 1. We never had him in the newborn size, started with the 1's. And he was pretty tiny when he was first born.

  • We use Luvs and have since birth.  T never leaks, infact the only time he did leak in a diaper was Target brand and Huggies New born.  we use Huggies overnights though at night because he's in the diaper for so long.

I also suggest going up a size, and I've never, NOT once pointed his penis down when changing his diaper.  No leaks.  I am also not a change every 2-3 hours type of mom, I change as needed after a poop or nap.

Costco Kirkland brand I've heard are just like Huggies right?  I haven't tried them, because that's what I've been told.  I am not a fan of the roughness of Huggies, which is why I love Luvs because they are really soft.

  • I might also add that you could try getting some diaper doubles.  They are little insert pads you can put in regular diapers to see if it helps getting through the night.

  • I've used Pampers swaddlers and cruisers, Huggies and Huggies Pure and natural, Luvs and Costco.

I like the cruisers for when they are really active.. crawling or learning to walk.  Luvs were teh thinnest, but worked.

I too had a problem of R leaking out if his diapers daily, but I'm on my 2nd package of Huggies Pure and Natural and NO LEAKS!  These are my FAV dipaers.  They are THE softest ones I've seen.  I only bought them since they were $2.00 at Target AND, I had a $3.00 off Target coupon and a $3.00 manufucturer coupon AND, they took another HUggie $1.50 manufacturer coupon with it.  I got the package for like 9 bucks so I bought 5 with all my coupons!  Seriously...the best!

Definetely go up a size!  That really helps.
