NBR Grumble about dog owners

Why don't the dog owners in my neighborhood pick up their dogs droppings?  Is like they pick it up on the sidewalks with  houses, but on the sidewalk trails in the woods, where people aren't necessarily watching, there is poop EVERYWHERE!  It's getting ridiculous.  I always thought this was just a common courtesy, but maybe I'm wrong?

Re: NBR Grumble about dog owners

  • Very annoying.  If you get caught not picking up your dogs business around here I think there's a fine...something like $150.

  • That drives me nuts, and I have a dog.  We pick up after our dog EVERY TIME, no matter where we are.  The guy next to my work lets his dog poop in our work yard and never cleans it up, it's really gross.
  • Oh yeah, where I am, too. The fine in my town is $200...but it depends on the town.

Yeah, it's definitely irritating that people can be like that - just pick it up...if you want a dog, be respectful of people who don't want to step in dogshiit.  And I don't anyone who would want to do that.

I pick up after Apollo Puppy all the time.  Unless we're hiking, and he does it WAY OFF the trail - like in the bushes.

The other thing that pisses me off?  People who take their dog to the dog park, and let their dogs poop everywhere there, and don't pick it up.  Dog parks usually even provide the baggies for the poop!!!!  This, IMO, is so totally rude and inconsiderate!

I know around here, if you actually catch them doing it, take photos, you can report them, and they will be fined via mail...

Thanks. I'll have to do that it's definitely getting a little tiring I could see if they were doing it at the empty area that they never built on at the beginning of the neighborhood that no one goes on or uses but to do it on other peoples maintained property is just getting a little annoying.

  • Just curious but by chance is the trail in the woods a city park trail? We have a few wooded trails around where we live and no one picks up the dog droppings either. My thought (at least on the trails by us) is that there are no waste receptacles provided anywhere on the trail, and in the winter the city takes all the trash cans away. In the spring, all the dropping melts out of the snow (eww) along with all the other trash people have left from using the trails all winter.

Not to mention rude, disrespectful, trashy, disgusting, gross, and illegal.  Also, if they are going onto your lawn, they are trespassing...!

Not a city park.  But there are no trash cans around.  But I guess I always thought dog owners brought baggies with them....

  • I live in a first-floor condo.  There is this woman who lets her dog poop right in front of our bedroom window (there are designated areas for dog walking complete with baggies).  Several times she's left it there.  The other day I watched her do it and try to kick some mulch over it.  I got so angry that I gathered it up, put it on a paper plate and delivered it to her door with a note that said "You forgot this."  It hasn't happened since.  I am ruthless.

It stinks and it carries disease.

My favorite has to be the people that actually bag it up but then LEAVE the crap bag on the ground.  How lazy can you be???

    Yes Hahahah!  That's classic!

Seriously...you've gotta report that lady to the association!  I used to live in a condo, and we had seriously high doggie charges because of arse-holes who wouldn't pick up after their dogs - then it got bad enough that the Board voted to amend the Bylaws to not allow dogs anymore.  By doing this, your neighbour is basically thumbing her nose at everyone.

    That is awesome!

I have to admit, the first time I dogsat for my sister's dog (this was before getting a dog had ever crossed my mind) I wanted to talk her on a walk. She was doing great, I was having a blast, and then... in the MIDDLE of somebody's driveway she pooped. This dog is a huge lab, so let me tell you, it was a LOT of poop. I was absolutely mortified! I ran home, grabbed a bag and came back to clean it up but I felt so guilty for leaving it there about 15 minutes.

Now when we take Goose out, we try to let him do his business in our backyard before a walk. I think he's only pooped twice in the neighborhood, and of course I picked it up both times.

    I LOVE IT!!! haha

  • I'd advise none of you to move out of the city or a neighborhood. The only places you have to pick up after your dog here is at the park (and I'm guessing if you're in a neighborhood too) but there's not many it's mostly just houses with a big field or pasture in front, or woods, so there's no law about it here.

Huh? Different towns have different laws.  I live in a rural suburban town in CT, and the laws are actually strictly enforced here.  If anybody sees you walking away from a pile of poop, they can - and will - report you.  Here, you have to pick up after your dog ANYWHERE unless it's YOUR OWN PROPERTY.
