Toddler feeding

When did you stop using the high chair?

When did you stop using a bib?

I think we can get away with not using either, F loves to sit in the big girl chairs (on a cushion to prop her up).  She only really needs a bib if she is feeding herself something "colorful", like yogurt.  It seems evertime we eat, I spill on myself and she is spotless....lol.

So Tasty, So Yummy

Re: Toddler feeding

  • We stopped using a bib pretty early on (I would say maybe at the 1 year mark?)  I think it's because she was either eating finger foods or using a fork to stab into the food.  Anything soup like I would still feed her...then when she started using the spoon a little better, I let her feed herself and just accepted that she would get messy.

We have the spacesaver that converts into a booster, and so she's still seating in it now.

  • We moved to a booster around 15 months when he wanted to sit directly at the table with us.  We ditched the booster at 2 when he refused to sit in it anymore.

I wish we could still use bibs.  O is a super messy eater.  Alas, he rejected bibs shortly after a year and would rip them off immediately.

  • Grant never used a big (he would tear them ALL off, or throw a fit, so we just go through a lot of clothes!) - he is still in a high chair. We have a booster but he doesn't stay in it.
  • I think we stopped using bibs around 11 months or so. Aiden pulled them off and hated them. I just realized he's gonna get messy.  I buy cheap "play clothes" and make sure he's dressed in that when we eat, especially messy stuff. Most of his old stuff has stains, but for around the house...no biggie.  He only wears nice clothes when we go out.  As for the high chair, still using it, but thinking of switching to a booster in the near future.
  • once she was done with purees, we stopped using bibs.  if it's something messy, she just gets naked.  we do use those disposable bibs when we're out, but that's more so people don't give us dirty looks for letting our child eat ravioli in a white shirt with no bib.

  • We sold our high chair a few months ago and have her in a plastic booster seat.  She likes it SO much more and feels like such a big girl.  We still use bibs, but the plastic Kiddopotamus ones that we've used since she was a baby.  Mainly because when she eats something like yogurt (which is every morning), although she generally does a great job with spooning it into her mouth, she always gets huge spoonfuls and inevitably drops some on her.  On school mornings, I want to avoid getting it on her clothes especially.  She doesn't mind the bibs at all.
