A few things today got me thinking about the role of faith in our TTC experiences. I'm just curious about yours...
1. Are you religious? If so, what denomination?
2. Does your faith affect your outlook on TTC? (i.e. do you think it's all in God's hands?)
3. Has anything about your faith changed during your TTC journey? (are you more religious, less?)
Re: Poll: Faith & TTC
1. Are you religious? If so, what denomination? - a little, I am hindu
2. Does your faith affect your outlook on TTC? (i.e. do you think it's all in God's hands?) - no
3. Has anything about your faith changed during your TTC journey? (are you more religious, less?) - no
1. Are you religious? If so, what denomination? Yes, I'm Catholic
2. Does your faith affect your outlook on TTC? (i.e. do you think it's all in God's hands?) My faith doesn't really affect my outlook. I don't think it's all in God's hands, or anything, but it doesn't hurt to pray...
3. Has anything about your faith changed during your TTC journey? (are you more religious, less?) Hasn't changed it yet, but if we don't have any luck in another year or so I could see myself losing faith, at least temporarily.
Carina 12.28.2010 | Aurelia 9.23.12 | Chart - Round 3
1. Are you religious? I am but DH and I don't go to church at the moment. We are actually thinking about going again to a non-denominational christian center
2. Does your faith affect your outlook on TTC? I do think it is in God's plans to some extent. I know I will be blessed with another baby when the time is right.
3. Has anything about your faith changed during your TTC journey? No
1. Are you religious? If so, what denomination? DH is not religious at all. I was raised in a non-denominational church, but I'm not as religious as I was in the past.
2. Does your faith affect your outlook on TTC? (i.e. do you think it's all in God's hands?) Can I steal mchupies response? I agree 100% I pray about it, but I'm not going to get pregnant unless I know when I O and my husband I have sex around then.
3. Has anything about your faith changed during your TTC journey? (are you more religious, less?) Since I'm not super religious as it is nothing has changed.
1. Are you religious? If so, what denomination? Yes, I'm technically Presbyterian (baptized & confirmed) but I just think of myself as a Christian.
2. Does your faith affect your outlook on TTC? (i.e. do you think it's all in God's hands?) It does, but not in the sense that it's all in God's hands. As a Christian, I believe that God has given us certain gifts. I believe that He has enabled us, as a world, to make the scientific discoveries we have, that assist in fertility (IUI, IVF, etc.) So while I'm a little undecided on the thoughts of "it'll happen when it's God's plan" or "God has a plan for you and it may not include children", I do believe that if our body chemistry and/or physiology is preventing us from getting pregnant, I believe that we have those options to turn to as a result of the gifts that God has given us. Just like he's enabled us to figure out how our bodies work, so we learn to chart, etc.
3. Has anything about your faith changed during your TTC journey? (are you more religious, less?) We've just started this journey, so it hasn't really had time to change things. If we do run into problems, I don't see it making me any less religious.
Sorry for the essay!
1. Are you religious? If so, what denomination? Yes.....my dad is a Baptist preacher.
2. Does your faith affect your outlook on TTC? (i.e. do you think it's all in God's hands?) Nope. I pray about it, but ehhh...my DH and I are the ones having the sex.
3. Has anything about your faith changed during your TTC journey? (are you more religious, less?) Nothing's changed, but I have learned that I don't see eye to eye about religion with my parents and I am not as "christ like" as they want me to be.
**TTC since 10/2009** **BFP 4/15/12- Dx Molar Pregnancy- Surgery 5/15/12 & 5/22/12** **BFP 1/23/14- 1st Beta (1/24/14) 171 2nd Beta (1/28/14) 860**
1. Are you religious? If so, what denomination? Well, I don't call it religious. But I'm from a United Methodist background, but I just say Christian, or non-denominational.
2. Does your faith affect your outlook on TTC? (i.e. do you think it's all in God's hands?) Yes and no, I believe in BC I believe In any form of IF treatments and I believe in adoption.
3. Has anything about your faith changed during your TTC journey? (are you more religious, less?) Nope.
1. Are you religious? If so, what denomination? Catholic
2. Does your faith affect your outlook on TTC? (i.e. do you think it's all in God's hands?) It should, but no!
3. Has anything about your faith changed during your TTC journey? (are you more religious, less?)
Makes it so hard to have faith or to believe in anything. I mean how does a crack head get to have a healthy baby so that she can kill it and I can't have one to love! I mean really it makes me question all and any faith I may have!
My DH is the same!
2. Does your faith affect your outlook on TTC? (i.e. do you think it's all in God's hands?) We definitely pray about it, but don't believe that God alone chooses if/when couples conceive.
3. Has anything about your faith changed during your TTC journey? (are you more religious, less?) So far it hasn't, but we're just getting started.
This is what I was getting at with my question, Mari...I feel like I am starting to lose faith because so many wonderful ladies on this board have been trying for so long without luck, or they have conceived only to have it taken away a short time later.
I just don't understand how "God's plan" can involve such long standing suffering and pain for so many. After my sister died and I was raped I started losing faith, only to have it restored by DH...but now I feel like I'm about to start losing it again...
Carina 12.28.2010 | Aurelia 9.23.12 | Chart - Round 3
1. Are you religious? If so, what denomination? Yes, Christian
2. Does your faith affect your outlook on TTC? (i.e. do you think it's all in God's hands?) Yes, I believe it's absolutely in Gods hands. Although it's our choice to TTC, it's his decision to bless us with the miracle of a baby or not.
3. Has anything about your faith changed during your TTC journey? (are you more religious, less?) I think I have more faith as I've gotten older, not necessarily because we are TTC.
Complete surprise!

1. Are you religious? If so, what denomination? Yes I am Catholic and teach at a catholic school
2. Does your faith affect your outlook on TTC? (i.e. do you think it's all in God's hands?) Yes and No- I pray about it and try to tell myself all in God's timing-but then you look at all the people who get pregnant and then choose not to have the baby or have the baby only to be horrible parents and it makes you wonder
3. Has anything about your faith changed during your TTC journey? (are you more religious, less?) This has def. tested my faith and it has only been 6 months, I think the longer we try it will push me farther away from God rather than closer. I read blogs and such where it says this time strengthened their faith, but right now I don't see that happening in my case.
1. Are you religious? If so, what denomination?
Yes, Roman Catholic
2. Does your faith affect your outlook on TTC? (i.e. do you think it's all in God's hands?)
Sure, I believe that I will get pregnant when it is God's will. I believe He has given me some brains, so I can help with the process.
3. Has anything about your faith changed during your TTC journey? (are you more religious, less?)
My faith is always changing, I won't say "more" or "less", my faith just matures with me. I have grown in this process, and my relationship with God is also deeper.1. Are you religious? If so, what denomination? Nope. I was raised Catholic- went to catholic school, did communion, confirmation etc. But the events in my life broke me down.
2. Does your faith affect your outlook on TTC? (i.e. do you think it's all in God's hands?) Nope. I dont think that God has much to do with it.
3. Has anything about your faith changed during your TTC journey? (are you more religious, less?) Nope, its stayed the same. I feel the same about religion/faith as I did when we first started.
Cooper+Evie=Soulmates

1. Are you religious? If so, what denomination? No, although I was raised Catholic (went to Catholic school for a little while, but decided it wasn't for me when I was old enough to make that decision). I consider myself Agnostic, and even though I am not a religious person, I consider myself to me a spiritual person. For me, the two are very different things.
2. Does your faith affect your outlook on TTC? (i.e. do you think it's all in God's hands?) As you might guess based on my response to #1, no.
3. Has anything about your faith changed during your TTC journey? (are you more religious, less?) No

1. Are you religious? If so, what denomination? DH and I are Christians attending a non-denominational church. I don't like the word religious either, but I would say that our faith is the lens through which we view all of life
2. Does your faith affect your outlook on TTC? (i.e. do you think it's all in God's hands?) Yes. I believe that we play a role (obviously), but ultimately it is God who creates life. I don't think he caused my miscarriage, but I think he allowed it to happen.
3. Has anything about your faith changed during your TTC journey? (are you more religious, less?) TTC, and my miscarriage in particular, have challenged my faith, but ultimately I feel that it is growing me into a greater understanding of who God is. I am finding that I must first be firm first in my knowledge that God is good and not allow my view of God to be shaped by my current circumstances, because otherwise a lot of things in this (and in many other women's) TTC journeys make no sense. Ultimately, I think that God works all things together for our good, but we can't see the whole picture yet.
U dont no my 15 year old cousin who is due any day now's LYFE!
She has turned out so well herself (getting arrested, cares more about her high tops than the fact that she is HAVING A BABY)...when your 13 year old brother is going to be the only adult influence in your kids life, it is time to maybe think about adoption.
(Oh wait, I think u do no her lyfe.)
This!
1. Are you religious? If so, what denomination? I'm agnostic, DH is Catholic
2. Does your faith affect your outlook on TTC? (i.e. do you think it's all in God's hands?) Doesn't change my outlook, but others who know my religeous beliefs (or lack there of) say they are praying for me. I hope it's not cause they think their God with smite me for not believing LOL.
3. Has anything about your faith changed during your TTC journey? (are you more religious, less?) Nope, and I hope it doesn't effect DH's since it's nice that at least one of us holds on to a higher power.

My Blog
1. Are you religious? If so, what denomination? I wouldn't say that I am religious but I am a christian who believes in God without a doubt and strive to have an on-going relationship with him. I attend a non-denominational church.
2. Does your faith affect your outlook on TTC? (i.e. do you think it's all in God's hands?) It definitely does. Although I believe it is the couple's choice to have sex and try to conceive, I believe without God a seed could not be planted whether we ovulate or not. I believe God has a plan for our lives and until God's plan includes a baby, it is God who can continually to give us peace and joy in the stressful TTC times. All we have to do is seek him.
3. Has anything about your faith changed during your TTC journey? (are you more religious, less?) It definitely has. Although we've only been trying for 4 months, I refuse to allow disappointment to depress and stress me. I believe that God knows what's absolutely best for me because He knows me better than I know myself. If God chooses to bless me with a child a year from now as opposed to two months ago, it will be because I wasn't ready for it. I trust him and his wisdom more than my own. God bless you all ladies. Enjoy the experience
I pray that your TTC journey brings you closer to God.
This. My DH and I attend an Independent Christian Church also. While I have not had the same experiences, I have the same view. It's so hard to understand the "whys" sometimes, but I firmly believe God has a plan.
1. Are you religious? If so, what denomination? Somewhat. I'm Jewish. I'm not that religious in the belief sense (I don't believe the Torah is the word of G-d, 100% believe in evolution, etc.) but I am very culturally Jewish and spiritually Jewish (grew up going to a Jewish school, I go to synagogue a couple times a month, celebrate the holidays, keep kosher to some degree, believe in a "G-d" but more in a spiritual, we're all connected kind of way).
2. Does your faith affect your outlook on TTC? (i.e. do you think it's all in God's hands?) I don't think it's all in G-d's hands. I don't think G-d has much (if anything) to do with our day to day lives.
3. Has anything about your faith changed during your TTC journey? (are you more religious, less?) My religion is a very family based religion. I'm at the very beginning of my TTC journey, but when I go to synagogue or celebrate holidays, I think about how excited I am to share these traditions with my future children. I think I will be more religious once I had children.

Mrs. McCain, I'd have to agree with you on your answers to #2 and #3. DH and I go to a southern Baptist church and are both Christians...I would have to say we are definitely not as conservative as most southern Baptists tend to be.
However, I know God is the one who forms us in our Mother's womb and knows us before we are even born. It sucks that I had to go through a loss, but I take it as a blessing that there was something wrong with the pregnancy and it wasn't meant to be. It didn't make it any easier. But it did help me to heal.
I do hate that so many women have had so many problems conceiving. It doesn't seem fair. There are times when I haven't understood why God let things happen and my faith has faltered.
I guess some things will never be known. Just know for the ladies that I pray for, I really do pray for you. And I think of you often. I hope God comes through for you soon.

This. I did say though when AF arrived last time that "God hated me" and ate meat on Friday and broke my lent for that day but I went back. I was just having a bad day.
No, not religious. I am very anti-organized religion. Spiritual is a good description. I find my beliefs most fit into an Eastern philosophy.
2. Does your faith affect your outlook on TTC? (i.e. do you think it's all in God's hands?)
No. Not at all. And I get really annoyed when people say that it's "god's plan" for me not to have a baby right now. If it works for you, that's fine but don't push it at me.
3. Has anything about your faith changed during your TTC journey? (are you more religious, less?)
Nope, no change. DH and I are in agreement on our beliefs and trust in biology to make this happen for us. Or to direct us to a medical solution that will allow this to happen for us.
1. Are you religious? If so, what denomination? Yes, Christian
2. Does your faith affect your outlook on TTC? (i.e. do you think it's all in God's hands?)--Yes it does.
3. Has anything about your faith changed during your TTC journey? (are you more religious, less?)--At times I do questions it, but I believe that everything will happen in time.
What a beautiful thing to say!
1. Yes. I am a Christian and Non-denominational.
2. What is God for if you don't believe he is all-knowing, all-powerful and holds everything in his hands?
3. Mine has grown stronger.
