Has anyone made a train cake?

We're decided to do a Train/Thomas birthday party for DS's second birthday party. I found this site (https://www.bettycrocker.com/videos/videolibrary/birthday-cakes/how-to-make-a-train-cake) and I think we're going to do something similar, but I was wondering if anyone had any advice?

I made that sort of train for my son's 2nd b-day party. I just baked the train cars in a mini loaf pan, cut out the top, filled it with candy and iced. The train itself was cake cooked in a soup can (the round part) and the other parts were just cut from a sheet cake. I found the face to be the hardest- I ended up just printing a face off the computer and sticking it on the cake with icing. Otherwise, it didn't resemble Thomas at all! The "grass" was the easiest part. It's shredded coconut mixed with food coloring in a baggie and poured over the area. I didn't think the whole thing was hard - just time consuming. You should have seen the kids faces when they saw it- it made it all worth it!

We just did our DS's 2nd birthday Thomas/Train theme this past weekend. I did this.

It was awesome! And you can use it in the future for other transportation cakes. They are silicone cupcake holders in different shapes that they show you how to put together and bake and all. It was so easy and a huge hit! I love you can reuse.
I made a really simple one...
The pan is wilton. We made a lemon pound cake so it was not crumbly. DH decorated it. We just got white frosting and he used different food coloring. He did the lines with the frosting gel.
