What are you putting in dc Easter basket? What did your parents put in yours?

So what are you putting in dc's easter basket?

What do you remember receiving as a kid?

I remember it just being the eggs we dyed, some candy... maybe a little stuffed bunny or chick.. nothing big...

but then my kids.. oh my!  I ordered them some books, forgetting I had ordered some through the school... we had decided to put the moves we had preordered in their baskets... but now I'm thinking it's too much (Princess and the Frog for dd's basket, Toy Story for ds' basket) I had ordered piggie paint (fingernail polish) for dd... so not I need to find something the equivalent for ds... probably more cars or something.  then the chocolate bunnies and some candy (although most of the candy will be in the plastic eggs for the hunt)... my goodness!

I'm thinking we overdid it again.  maybe we should just watch the movies on family movie night as they come in???

  • I only really remember candy as a kid, but maybe we got a few small things.  My mom was divorced so I'm sure it wasn't much.  For my kids on the other hand, this year's basket shall include:

Candy, sand buckets(Spiderman and Toy Story), toothbrushes, sidewalk chalk, books, crayons, bubbles, a small piggy bank, bug house thing from the $ store, a puzzle, and kick balls so far....

This doesn't include the baskets they get from my mom and in laws.  Mostly candy from my inlaws and mostly toys from my mom.

    Crazy!!

  • I got candy and eggs in my basket and sometimes a stuffed animal.  One year I got a real chick =)

I think books are a good idea (especially if it is in lieu of candy).  Books and movies and candy and toys seems like a little much IMO.

DS will get a basket with some candy and a small toy or two... pretty much the same thing the EB brought me.  But we will also go to an Easter Brunch with the EB and then come home and do an Easter egg hunt in the yard... we didn't do any of that when I was little.

  • From my parents: candy, money, books - nothing big.

I, on the other hand, am massively out of control.  So Jackson is getting (and I've already finished buying everything):

    - small amount of candy (a few Reeses PB eggs, jelly beans)

    - Annie's bunnies (goldfish like crackers)

    - eggs w/ change in them

    - swim trunks

    - crocs

    - super soaker

    - super hero cape from etsy

    - 3 Easter books (one about the real meaning)

    - Preschool workbook

    - Princess/Frog DVD, Toy Story & Toy Story 2 DVDs

I like to put things in his basket I was buying anyway (DVDs, preschool workbook), or he needed (crocs, swim trunks), along with a few fun things (super soaker, super hero cape).  Then I do a few things related to the holiday (books, eggs, candy, bunnies).

But I fully admit I go overboard - if I was just doing things related to the holiday - he would just a get a few books, some candy and then eggs w/ change in them.  Since I add things he was going to get or needed, it seems like a lot.

that's the thing... the movies we bought anyway.. just thought maybe I'd put them in their baskets... same for the nail polish b/c dh has a heart attack anytime I put my OPI on her... he'd rather it be kiddie polish and target didn't have any. so I found Piggie Paint online.. which is pricey... but I bought the set that donates to Susan G Komen Foundation, so I feel that makes it okay. lol. The books were being purchased anyway b/c of dc recent fascinations.  they start asking questions and we find books on the topic.  the only candy they get in their basket is the chocolate bunny... then I set out a bowl of candies for the entire family.

My Target has two types, thick cylindrical shaped chalk with a holder, and egg shaped chalk.

They're each getting an unstuffed build-a-bear, a book, a movie, a sticker book thing, a bubble wand, and a chocolate bunny.

  • Coloring book/preschool workbook

small bouncy balls I got on clearance

    A DVD

    Some art supplies

    A little candy

    couple of books

     A couple of matchbox cars

I have a bag in my trunk and periodically I pick something up for the Easter Basket and add to it.
