I was thinking of asking this over on SAIF, but maybe you ladies would know statistics on this...
If 2 embryos are transferred, what is the statistic on twins vs. singleton?
Hope that makes sense.
ETA: I am sure this varies by age, egg quality, etc. Just wanted an idea. TIA.
Re: IVF rate of twins?
You are right with the variables mentioned.
Per my RE, we had a 50% chance of success (this was given at ET with quality taken into consideration) and a 25-30% chance of twins since we put back two perfect 5AA embryos. He later told me my chance of the triplets happening was somewhere around 1% for that cycle.
Thanks, LCB!
It also varies by clinic. If you go to www.sart.org you can find your clinic and see the rates of twins.
At my ET, my RE told me my chance of pregnancy was 50-60%; he did not tell me my chance of twins. I am having twins, and a friend of mine who cycled 6 weeks ahead of me also had twins.
I *think* but can't remember that my doc gave me a 40% chance of twins. I had two grade A blastocysts.
He gave me a 60% chance of pregnancy.
Look at me falling on the wrong side of both numbers

We had several "perfect" embies and the RE said that our chance of twins would be around 50% or higher if we transfered two back. He strongly urged us to only transfer one because he was pretty confident of our success rate, and I have a feeling if we had transfered two I would be pg with twins right now. My RE still cracks me up by telling us "I'm so glad you decided on only one" which is basically him saying "See I told you so!" But profesionally! lol
And you're right, all those variables will factor in to your chances and percentages. Your Re will be able to give you specifics after ER and when they see how the embies are growing.
we were told that IVF statistically has a 40% success rate and that the chance of twinning was 8-10%
Our RE said the rate of multiples is higher with injectibles than IVF. And of course, as you mentioned, the rate is affected by age, etc.
