Bathroom Help

Hi all, I am in so much pain everytime I go to the bathroom.  Does anyone have any remedies? Stool softeners that really work?  TIA

  • Fiber cereal and lots and lots of water really helps!

Fiber helps, juice, staying really hydrated... sometimes you just can't get around the pain. I ended up getting a hemmie just barely inside and I almost wanted to cry every time I pooped for like 2 weeks.

  • Bananas, apples, apple juice and almonds always help to clear me up! I've never had luck with stool softeners and who wants to wait days for them to work. GL!

  • Colace & Metimucil are stool softeners you can take

Miralax, Milk of Mag, Mag Citrate are laxatives you can take

Also increase water & fiber intake--fruits, veggies, bran cereals...

  • Try a couple dried apricots.

  • for me, coffee always works. I gave it up when i found out i was pregnant, just cause it didn't taste as good. I just started having a half cup or cup a day and it works like a charm :)

prune or plum juice i heard works well too..

  • Whenever I eat Frosted Mini Wheats I poop. It's like a blessing in a box. Try getting more fiber that might help. I haven't ever taken stool softeners. I did take Milk of Magnesia after I had gallbladder surgery but I don't think you can take that when you're pregnant.

  • I was on Miralax until I decided to try to get pregnant.  My dr. told me that stool softeners or laxatives aren't known to be safe while pregnant so she told me to just change to fiber supplements.  I take 5 of those a day and I'm fine.  Make sure to drink more water because if you don't, taking the fiber can have the opposite effect than what you want.

This. Just enough to kick start the system.

  • I had this problem even before getting pregnant so I made a point of staying proactive. I eat Activia yogurt and Raisin Bran every day. Prune juice will definitely do the trick, but it can work too well, so make sure you have time to stay at home for awhile! 1-2 glasses is probably all you need.

Above all, try to stay on top of it as soon as you notice you might need a little help. I went after several days of not being able to and I thought I might literally die.

And never, ever ignore the urge! That used to be my biggest mistake, trying to let the feeling "build up".

Pregnancy is such a lovely excuse to talk about gross things. :)

  • prunes work for me...eat about 4 or 5 and you will be going in no time. They get a bad rep but I find them rather tasty. Avoid prune juice though...that stuff is toxic.
  • I disagree! Eating prunes doesn't do much for me but I've always had great luck with the juice. I suppose it depends on how hard up you are - the juice is more potent!
