Won't nap in crib..help

DD often refuses to nap anywhere but her car seat or bouncy chair. It's kind of my fault because I let her nap in the car a lot. I go to the gym almost every morning so I let her sleep the 30 min on the way there (about 2 hours after waking). Then she always falls asleep on the way home (always- I cannot stop her) and this is usually only 90 min later.

She stays asleep when I take her out of the car and takes a 2 hour nap usually. Since she wakes up from this nap around 1:30-2, she definitely needs a 3rd nap still. I know she is tired because she is getting fussy, but she has been screaming in her crib for 15 min.

We did Ferber for night time and it worked great for getting her to sleep on her own but she still wakes up at night sometimes.

I don't understand why she can fall asleep so easily at night but will not nap in her crib? Sometimes she gives in after a few min, but then other times she fights it like crazy and will not give in. Ferber or even straight CIO just isn't working for naps and I don't know what to do.

Even if I tried to get her to nap at home first, she will still fall asleep on the way home. I don't know what to do. She's going to be going to daycare in 3 months and NEEDS to nap in a crib. Help!

Re: Won't nap in crib..help

  • I'd let her sleep wherever she sleeps best for now. Let daycare figure out how to get her to sleep in a crib. It's not like learning to sleep in a crib in her own quiet room is going to yeah her how to sleep in a room with other kids anyway. That's just my opinion. This wouldn't be a battle I would pick.

  • How dark is her room during the day?
  • i would love to see responses for this, b/c we are fighting the SAME battle, except DD will only nap in my lap or if i'm laying with her.  it sucks.

as for daycare-they will figure it out.  they had dd sleeping in the crib the second week of daycare.  idk how they do it, but she naps fine in a crib for them.

  • Her room is pretty dark during the day. Sometimes she won't even nap in the bouncy chair. She only sleeps in the car seat if she has fallen asleep while in the car. So I can't really drive around for no reason for her 3rd nap just because she will only sleep in the car.
  • One idea, if you really do want to get her napping in the crib: can you transition her by putting the bouncy or the car seat in the crib? Get her used to the bars and the light, etc. with something familiar and then go right inthe crib.
