lung steroid shots = larger baby???

I did not know this was a possiblity until the nurse metioned it today. She said it also encourages growth.  My baby is large anyways.  Anyone else hear of this???

Re: lung steroid shots = larger baby???

  • I had the steroids in the hospital at about 28 weeks when I went into PTL.  I wasn't told it would make the baby bigger.  I have had a growth US since then and the baby is only measuring a couple days ahead at this point so nothing significant really.

  • Thank god, last u/s the lil man was 4 weeks ahead and I am not really looking forward to giving birth to Andre the Giant.
  • My babies definitely did not get bigger after their steroid shots.  At 24 weeks they were about 50th %ile, and I got shots then, and then at 28 weeks, they were about 35th %ile.  So definitely no crazy growth there!

  • I had the shots at 24 weeks and the babies have measured exactly at 50% the entire pregnancy.  I actually took an additional round of oral steroids at 32ish weeks (the drs both peri and ob said there indication that if the shots are given early a third shot or an oral steroid can be beneficial later in the pregnancy) and no abnormal growth from them either.  No one has meantioned growth either, I asked the OB at 23 weeks and he said it wouldnt be a problem to make them grow.

Im 35 weeks and 1 day with twins and GD and at their last growth scan they both were 50-53%tile.

    Good Luck!!
