Babies: 0 - 3 Months

s/o Unique baby names--how about not unique but not common?

If your LO has a name that isn't terribly unique but that you haven't heard much of, what is it?

DS's name is Jack. Not terribly uncommon, I'm afraid, but we LOVE it.

However, my name is Andrea. It's not very unique but I have only known 2-3 other Andreas in my life, so I guess it's pretty uncommon. That's the kind of thing I'm talking about.

Re: s/o Unique baby names--how about not unique but not common?

  • our son's name is scott-easy, simple but just not very common.  i posted under another post that our dr. said in 20 years she has never delivered another scott and the nurses were all impressed that we went with a more classic name that isn't trendy and used much.

  • My DD is Arden, which is traditionally a boy's name. It's not unique at all, but I doubt she'll run into too many people with the same name.

I'd say unique, but only because I don't think it's something you hear a lot of in America. I could be wrong--maybe it's just not common in MN. Like if I named my DS Sven. Not something you hear a ton over here but it's QUITE common in Sweden. I'd call that unique.

    I think it's beautiful, though.

  • Our LO is Charlotte, I've never met another Charlotte and neither has DH.  We named her after my great great grandmother.

thank you!  After some research, it is a common scottish name and gaining popularity in Australia, but I agree, I think its just not prevalent in the US yet.

  • Our son's name is Ryan. It's a really common name in our area among people in our age group, but we don't know another baby Ryan (yet).

I don't know what's up with my siggy and I am too lazy to figure it out.
  • We've got a Morris here. Definitely not common amongst the under-70 crowd. Wink

  • I'm a teacher, so I go by how many I have taught...

Believe it or not, I've taught and Isla (and I looove the name).  I've never taught a Ruari (it's the Irish spelling, DH is Irish).  I have taught a Maggie, and she was lovely, but haven't heard of many of them (although it is getting more popular).  So I guess both of my girls have uncommon names.

I'm a Sarah....sooooo very common for my age (and it seems every year really).

  • We named our son Flynn.

I've never known anybody else with the first name Flynn.

  • Most of the women in both families have non-unique but uncommon names: Barbara, Cecile, etc.
  • Our sons name is William which is really common in the south but we call him Liam which is not common in our area. It took my family weeks to be able to pronounce Liam. My dad still calls him William more than Liam.
  • We named our DD #1 Haley and DD #2 Hannah. We have a long, hard last name and were trying to go with easy first names.

My name is Jillian, which is gaining popularity.

  • We named our little boy Arden--it has Irish and Latin roots and neither of us had ever heard it for a first name.  It's more common as a last name--think Elizabeth Arden.  My DH met someone since LO was born that named their daughter Arden.

  • Colin is gaining in popularity, but LO's middle name is Brady and that is still uncommon.

I love that name! And I love naming kids after their grandparents (however "great" they are, lol). My great-grandma's name was Ella and that's just way too trendy for me, so we went with her middle name: Mae

We also have a Ruari, Dh is also irish.
  • My DD's name is Ivy Caroline...a lot of people comment that they do not know anyone who is young with the name Ivy or Caroline, so as another person mentioned more popular with the over 70 crowd.

My name is Annie Marie, again, not unique, but I only know one other Annie that is around my age.

My DS's name is Braydon Jack, which I knew was not unique, but I didn't realize how common it was until after he was born.
