Opinions on big girl room decor

This is the wall border that I've chosen to go at chair rail level.  I want to do sort of a garden/ladybug theme. I bought a very cute ladybug lamp and am kinda going off that.

I want to paint the walls Sherwin Williams Grape Mist and the trim in the room is already French Roast with crown molding at the top.  So imagine this border on lavenderish walls with dark brown trim and ladybug everything else.  What do you think?

She never had a decorated nursery because we were in the middle of moving when she was small.  This is her first decorated space.

  • LOVE IT!  Jamie has lady bugs in her room too!

  • Yay for Maren!!!!!  She is getting to be such a big girl:)

I love the garden theme.  Ladybugs used to be my favorite until my MIL ruined them for me.......she got compulsive and bought me ridiculous amts. of ladybug stuff until i was like, "i freakin' hate these bugs"......LOL

However, they have always been sort of my good luck charm and i am starting to like them again...........but we will not let her know!!!!

I can't wait to see the finished product!!!  You will have to post pictures:)

  • How cute!

  • Thanks ya'll.  I've been trying to decide for months on how to decorate.  DD's not too girly, so I didn't want to overdo the girl stuff.  It's going to be awhile before we finish, but I'll definitely post pictures.

BTW, I'm doing this all in the nursery with hopes I'll jinx myself.  I've decided that the nursery will be her permanent room until she decides she wants to move to the other bedroom. (around age 7 or 8).  Can you jinx yourself if you do it knowingly?

eyenerd - My IL's are the same about going overboard with stuff.  I'm a minimalist and don't like clutter.  I just don't tell them what I like anymore and tell them what I need.  Like dish towels or appliances. LOL  For the love of heaven, no more Willowtree!!  They've gotten me so many of those things and I've never had the heart to tell them they aren't my style. :P

  • I think it would be cute.  I would probably go with the same purple tone that is in the flower though.

Thanks! The purple I picked is in the same hue so I think it will work just as well. :)

  • Sounds cute!

I am imagining the purple a little dark, and if it is then maybe only do 1/2 the wall (like below the boarder) or it might be too dark or over powering. JMO though, I'm sure it we be adorable no matter what you do. Post pics when you are done though for sure!

  • I think it sounds adorable!
  • It is very sweet!  I'd bet you could find a green fabric with daisies as an accent fabric for pillows or a little chair or floor cushion or dust ruffle that would pull out the bottom of the border. Fun! Fun! Fun!
