Babies: 3 - 6 Months

How often does your 4-5 m.o. nurse?

Also, what time do they go to bed and how often do they nurse during the night?

My 4.5 month old still nurses every 3 hours. He goes to bed at 7pm and is up at 1am and then again between 4 and 5 am to eat. He was 6 weeks early, but now he's in the 75th % for weight. My pedi said not to change anything I'm doing, but did say that my DS is probably a little too fat for his height. Just curious to see what other 4 month olds are doing. Thanks.

  • Bella is BF and also gets about 12 oz of formula supplements per day, usually nursing 6 times a day.  She goes to bed for the night around 9 pm and sleeps thru till around 8 am.  She's been doing this since around 3 months when she cut out her midnight feeding on her own.

She was 3 weeks early and has consistently stayed in the 3rd %tile.  The pedi hasn't been concerned because she has been gaining weight steadily.

  • My LO is ebf & nurses 7 times per day at these approx times: 7 am, 1030 am, 1 pm, 4 pm, 6 pm, 730 pm, & 9 pm. After her 9 pm feeding she goes to bed (typically around 945 pm) and sttn til 7 am. The 730 pm is more comfort sucking than nursing, but she is usually fussy in the evenings so I just put her on to nurse to calm her down.
  • anywhere between 7-9 times a day depending on her GERD. If she is having a bad day she will eat a little (5 min nursing )every 1.5-2 hours but on a good day she will eat every 2.5-3 hours for 10-15 min.

She goes to bed at 9-9:30 and will not wake up until 4-5am, eat then go back until 9am. I am starting to think she could go longer at night but when I hear her start to stir I go in there because my boobs feel like they are going to explode! She is 50% in weight.

  • DD nurses about 6 times/day, sometimes it's 5 but most often it's 6. It works out to be about every 3 hours. She goes to bed at 8, and will sleep until 4 or 5 and then she's back to sleep within an hour usually and will sleep until about 8. She's been gaining weight steadily and pedi is happy with where she is.

  • My DS just turned 5 months old and still wants to nurse about every 2 hours (I exclusively bf).  We have some 2.5-3 hour breaks but mostly still about every 2 hours.  He goes to bed between 9:30-10pm and wakes up between 6-7am then sleeps again until about 9ish.  He is STTN so no late night nursing since he was about 3 months.  Our pedi is not concerned but I would really like him to nurse about every 3 hours - hopefully soon!

  • I ebf and Tristan eats 4 times a day about every 4 hours. He wakes up anywhere between 6:30-8:00 and feeds every four hours from then. He goes to bed around 7:30 and sleeps through the night. He did this on his own about ten days or so now.

He is in the 50th % for weight and 99th % for height. Aside from really packing the weight on before his 1 month appointment he has steadily been around the 50th %. Doctor isn't worried because he's been so consistent.
