S/O Sleep Sack

When did you all stop using them?  I just got a Halo fleece sack today for later this spring/summer.  DH likes to keep the house polar cold during the summer.

Re: S/O Sleep Sack

  • I'm not 100% sure I'm remembering correctly but I want to say around the time DD started rolling over, maybe both back-to-tummy and tummy-to-back? You definitely want to stop when your baby shows signs of pulling up.

I don't think we used anything in the summer, just PJs, so sometime around 6-8mo of age

  • We still use it at 19 months, they now make the Halo sleep sacks in toddler sizes so we will keep him in them until he's outgrown them biggest size. He likes them, and doesn't like loose blankets, he will constantly kick off a loose blanket. Our upstairs is always cold, especially in DS's room, so he definitely needs something besides his pjs.

  • We love sleepsacks.  DD is 18 months old, and we'll plan to use them at least until she transitions out of the crib (2+).  There's no way we could use a blanket - she is all over the place when she sleeps.  We use the pamper sack most of the time since it's more like a blanket and have a Halo as backup.
  • DS still uses lightweight cotton ones paired with a fleece sleeper.  He can roll over while in it because it's a large, but he doesn't get tangled up.  He seems to still like that slight feeling of being bundled, and he would be cold otherwise.  I can't think of a safety risk offhand to justify stopping.  If my DS is anything like my DD, he'll kick off all blankets (she still sleeps on top of her covers), so I'll keep him in a sleep sack for as long as they make his size.  I've seen ones that are designed for toddlers, with places for the feet to come through the bottom...maybe that would solve any potential frustration with restricted movement for an older baby.

  • We might transition to a blanket when he starts pulling up. I actually put a light blanket (the kind from the hospital) on him during naps and he generally does okay with it, but I'm not ready to leave him in the crib with it all night yet.
    The DC Nest. Winers welcome.

  • my 7mo is in one and my 2.5yo wears the toddler one, where the feet come out some nights still.
  • DS is 19 months old and still wears one.  There is no way that you have to stop using it when they start to learn how to stand up.  DS learned how to stand up in his without any issues and he even walks in it--in the crib and around his/our bedrooms (although it makes DH nervous) and has never fallen.

  • We just recently stopped using them so around 5 months.  I keep her in fleece footed PJs when it's cooler.  She has her own radiant heater in her room.  I've noticed that she likes when I tuck her in with a small blanket.  She kicks in happiness and then proceeds to put said blanket in her mouth.  After that, I couldn't go back to Sleep Sacks.  Wink
  • We used a sleep sack until around 7 months I think then switched to one with legs from onestepahead. I don't feel comfortable letting DD use a blanket and it wouldn't be beneficial anyways since she's all over the place in her sleep.?
  • My DS#1 slept in Halo Sleepsacks until he was over 2 years old, and I expect DS#2 will also.  Halo makes both cotton and fleece, so it just depended on the time of year as to which one.  We love them in our house -  they are a wonderful and safe alternative to loose blankets.
