Hey! I saw your post about your SIL's birth experience. Where did she deliver? ECM or Helen Keller?
I'm so sorry she had such a bad experience! I can't believe the nurses would be so ignorant to tell her that her milk should have come in by day 2.
My milk didn't come in until day 4 and the nurses at my hospital still told me just to be patient and kept doing what I was doing. (We had to bring DD back to the hospital regularly because of jaundice too. Rather than feed her bottles at first, we fed her formula through a syringe to try to get her bili levels down.)
Anyways, I hope she is recovering well at home now!
Re: **Amandabrooke**
Hey Lydia! Today was a much better day for Mary (her milk came in late on day 4- yay!). She delivered at ECM which from everything we heard is the better of the two. Her OB/Gyn is Dr Musgrove (wasn't he the Dr who delivered you?); he was great and pretty conservative in his decisions (didn't jump to do a C-section; waited to induce; etc)
It was the hospital that gave poor advice/education/wrong care at ECM. But I will say that ALL of the nurses/Drs/staff were very nice; Mary even got a suite and they allowed her to stay there after she was discharged because she wanted to stay with Sophie. Just frustrating that the anesthesiologist kept messing up, the regular nurses didn't support her lactation decision, and they were more concerned about if-anything-very-minor jaundice rather than allowing Mary and Sophie to have skin-to-skin (this one she was most depressed about).
Mary thought that it was her fault that her milk wasn't coming in...horrible! Right now Sophie's not really suckling-she's been bottle fed and didn't have to try hard so she's latching good but not sucking. I'm really trying to encourage them to see a lactation consultant. Mary's been pumping but I can't imagine having to pump the whole time (dairy cow! I hated my pump).
You're sweet to check in!

I also wanted to say that my milk didn't come in until day 4 either. From what I have read and came to understand, I thought 4 days was the usual.
::I'm jumping in too:: I'm from the Shoals area.ECM is not know to be the best...my step mother was there when she had cancer and they punctured her lungs. I have heard so many horror stories from ECM. (Even though I have several friends that work there)
Side note**Dr. Musgrove delivered me as a baby. Almost 28 years ago.
I am sorry that she had such a terrible time there. I was born at ECM and delivered by Dr. Musgrove, almost 29 years ago!
If it helps at all, K had a little bit of nipple confusion in the beginning after we had to supplement due to jaundice. We went to the lactation consultant four times in her first week and a half. Basically I had to cut out the bottle of pumped milk all together until she had figured out the whole nursing thing.
I saw the pictures of your niece on facebook. She is gorgeous!

Thanks so much y'all- they're getting ready to see the LC this morning! Lydia I shared your success story and I think that's encouraged her
IMO, both Mary and Sophie have quickly bounced back...Mary is going to share the birthing story with the Pedi though in-case that might have been the cause for her low platelet count (infection causes)...right now they're not thinking there's any lasting effects on Sophie {Thrombocytopenia/ ITP}
We're going to keep praying!
