Melissa and Doug Play Food

What Melissa and Dough play food items does your LO have and do they like them?  I'm thinking of getting DD the cutting food set.  Do you think she's too little for this.  I think she may be a little young to grasp the concept of pretend play with the food but would be enterained by it none the less.

  • DD got the cutting food vegetables and the pizza set for Christmas...so she was almost 2. I think your DD might still be a little young for these types of sets though. My DD barely has the coordination to cut through the velcro.

  • We have the cookie set and he loves it. We also have the pizza set...and the toppings are EVERYWHERE.  He doesn't like that one as much as the cookies.

  • DS loves the cutting food and the ice cream scoop set

  • DD got the kitchen for her birthday, so everyone got her food to go with it.  She has the ice cream set, the birthday cake set, and the food groups.  I also got her the pots and pans.  She loves the cake at the moment, because she wishes to relive her birthday party daily.  She also loves the ice cream, and shares it with the dog.  The food groups are so-so for her.
  • We pretty much have all of them.  She loves the cutting food set.  However she plays with all of them all the time!  She loves to make you a birthday cake or a pizza and bring it to you and tell you to eat it!  She might be a little young but she will grow into them!

  • DD got the cutting foods set for her second birthday, and it's become her favorite play food. (She also likes the cookie and birthday cake sets.) I think 15 months is too young for it, though, because the velcro can be tough for little hands to pull apart, let alone try to cut.

At that age, I'd get the whole fruits and/or vegetables. Even when she was younger, DD liked pretending to go shopping for them with her purse and shopping cart.

  • DD has the pantry set, fridge set, 5 food groups and pizza set. Only the pizza set has velcro ~ love it! We plan on getting more as she gets older.
  • The cookies are definitely the favorite, followed closely by the sandwich making kit.  We also have the sushi set, which still causes her some frustration and the refrigerator foods for her kitchen.
  • DD is getting the cutting fruit set for her birthday.  I think she will get it since she likes to pretend to cut her food with her fork.
