We've always used family or friends for occasional needs, or date nights on the weekends. But for the summer we will need someone on a regular basis, anywhere from 1 to 3 nights a week, so I can work. My DH will be taking full time classes at GMU, and for most of the summer he will be in classes in the evenings, I think the latest time he will get home will be somewhere around 10:30-11pm. I only work 3 nights a week, but I have to leave for work by 6:25pm. I could potentially, although it would suck, work all weekends for most of June, because his classes are only monday-thursday in june. come july thru august his classes will be monday-friday, so that leaves me a night short. ugh. and honestly, I just don't want to work every weekend over the summer! So, does anyone have any tips for finding a great, trustworthy babysitter? It would need to be someone who can come to our house and get DS a snack, playtime, and to sleep (not hard). We are in Sterling. I thought about checking with our church, to see if there's a bulletin board or something, but our church is in Herndon, and I am doubtful someone would want to make the trip to sterling for a babysitting job.
Wow, sorry this got so long!
Re: How did you find a babysitter? Any tips?
I would email GMU's education department & ask if they have an email list they send job postings out to or a bulletin board where you could post your listing. I would think that there might be a graduate student who could use a little extra cash.
I work/am a doc student at UMD & all of my babysitters are students/graduates. I have a special education major, a girl who works in the infant language lab, and a few others on reserve with great experience. I know at UMD emails go out several times a week with babysitting/tutoring opportunities. That's how I've found my sitters.
