Experienced Moms-- Do I need...

An infant sound machine AND a Sleep Sheep (I think this is like the seahorse but it doesn't glow... it's more cuddly. Has a heartbeat, whale sounds (I think), and a song or two) AND lullaby CD's?

Also, we live in an 850 square ft condo, all one floor. Do we need a baby monitor?

Re: Experienced Moms-- Do I need...

  • Out of all those things, all I have is the monitor. We live in a 750 sq ft apartment. DS is on the other side of the apartment, and I can't hear him through the closed bedroom door.

  • We have a sound machine, seahorse and monitor.  We returned the sleep sheep we got as a gift.
  • We have the seahorse and an app on the itouch for sleeping sounds. I like to use the seahorse during jammie, lotion and feeding time (our routine) and the white noise on the app while I bounce with her.

As for the monitor, I think it depends on the layout of your condo.

  • We have a sound machine and a monitor...and that's what I had for DD#1 too...I've only heard of the seahorse and sheep on here...somehow we survived without them =)

Oh...and the sound machine is just because we have a dog who tends to bark, so it's more to drown out noises than anything else!

  • If you do not receive the monitor as a gift I would hold off and see of you need it.  We live in a three level house and have not used ours yet since she is always with us (she sleeps in our room for now) We will use it once she transitions to a crib.  We have a heartbeat bear, which we started using day three home and she started sleeping in 3 hour stretches.  Not sure if it was the bear or my milk coming in but we are going with it.  I just got her a sea horse, which she likes to look at but I don't think you need it. I know you did not ask this but I would make sure you have some gowns.  DH loves them.  When DD was a couple weeks old she was always curled, which made sleepers a pain during diaper changes

  • we live in a studio apartment and I still use my baby monitor. It's great so I can take a guilt-free shower, or run around cleaning and know I'll hear him as soon as he starts squeaking.
  • We don't have a sound machine, just the nature sounds on the FP My Little Lamb swing and that works fine. We have a small 1 story 2 bedroom and do have a baby monitor but only a Safety 1st cheap one to use for when I want to take a shower or something.
  • We have and use all three. We live in a single level two bedroom apartment.

  • We live in a 2 bedroom condo just under 900 square feet and yes, we have a video monitor which I love and a sound machine.

I find both very useful. Our baby sleeps through the night in the second bedroom so the video is nice to watch her from our room-- I don't have to check on her if I can't hear her.  The sound machine works wonders to help put her to sleep and stay asleep.

  • I really love DS's sleep sheep. We have the travel one, which is cheaper. It plays for 45 minutes- that can't be beat!

We have a cheap small fan in his room that provides circulation and white noise- cheap double solution.

We do have lullaby CDs for the car, but they are musicians WE like.

I place a huge amount of value in our baby monitor, but we have two floors.
