3rd Trimester

My question didn't really get answered..

due to two people arguing, no offense ladies, but I just want my question answered. Mucus Plug, I looked it up and whatever, but still, is it like a period type of blood? When I hear plug I think about the plug you put in the bath tub to keep the water in =] haha. So no arguing back and forth this time.. someone just tell me what to expect so that way when it happens I don't think something is seriously wrong. I am sorry if this is stupid, but its my first LO and no one else in my family seems to remember this detail.

Re: My question didn't really get answered..

  • It's different for everyone. Some say it's like snot, some seem to describe theirs as more ... err ... solid. Sometimes it comes out in chunks, and some people never notice losing theirs. imo, it's not something that you really need to worry about.

  • I think it's just a lot of thick mucus... it could be brown and it could be accompanied with blood.  I think everyone is different and not everyone looses it before labor.

  • I don't think it's period-type.  In our childbirth class, she said it's just blood-tinged mucous.  I guess like a huge glob of snot with a little blood in it.  (By the way, you should have seen DH's face when our instructor said "some of you may not even notice you've lost your MP because you've been having so much vaginal discharge already."  Probably the grossest sentence he's ever heard!  Ha. )

  • Mine looked like an inch-long mucusy "plug" with pink and brown mixed in with the clear.  Very gross - I don't think you can mistake it once you've seen it.  Afterwards I continued to pass a lot of gelatiney-mucus, which I suppose were the remnants of the plug.

Honestly, I bet you could google pictures of it.

  • I'm sorry your question never got answered. When I lost mine with DD it looked like a lot of green snot, with both red, and brown blood. It all came out at once.

  • First, don't expect that you will see it, not everyone does.  Second, the description most often given is a glob of mucous that may or may not have blood color to it (think blowing your nose and having a big blob of booger come out).  Also, some people lose pieces over time so its not one big blob and it can regenerate so you can lose it multiple times.
  • Seriously?

your google skills must suck then.

  • I actually posted something just for you yesterday b/c the bickering got on my nerves too

  • With DD mine was like snot with a little bit of blood in it.  It also happened gradually over one day, every time I went to the bathroom.  From what I gather, you'll know it when you see it.
  • We can';t give you an answer because every woman is different.  It could be all clear and come out at once, or over the course of a few days...or it could be blood tinged, red or brown...

  • Mucus plug is like a big hunk of thick snot. It is sometimes blood streaked but mine wasn't bloody. Mine came out in pieces over a couple of days but was still big pieces and unmistakeable.

Also, you probably need to lighten up a little. Threads get off topic more often than not, and if you have a question that doesn't get answered here - try google. Or better yet, call your doctor.

  • And since I already posted what I thought was a useful reply...

Is it just me, or does anyone else here avoid MP posts like the plague, because seriously... 1) they're pointless, you can regrow the stupid thing, and 2) it really looks just the way that it sounds.

The title of this post should've been more descriptive so I could've avoided it :/  Next time I may just take the 0.837 seconds to google an image and post it as a pic for all to see, just to make me feel better!

The OP doesn't know how to use google apparently

I feel bad for her kid if one day she gets asked a question that she doesn't know...she likes answers handed to her....pretty much spoon fed  to her, so I guess she will come to the bump every time she needs info instead of learning how to google.

This. Mine is apparently long gone and I never noticed its departure.

I definitely do! And, OP, google is your best friend. Use it.

I can't imagine that being grosser than when I sucked part of my brain out of my nose using an infant ear syringe a few weeks ago.  It was an ice-cube sized block of green goo and I could literally feel it pulling out of my sinuses.  It was fantastically awesome.

You should've taken a pic of it and posted it on the internet, for when someone on a different forum wants to know what brain boogers look like!

    True story... Yes

  • Losing your MP is truly a non issue because you could lose it and go into labor within hours or lose it, regenerate it and carry for 2 or 3 more weeks. If I were you I not worry about when you'll lose it, whether you'll lose it, etc since it has no real bearing on when you'll deliver.
  • IMO, you'll know it if you see it. Mine was a clumpy kind of sort of bloody chunk and some period type blood when I wiped. I think DD came like 3 or 4 days later.

  • are u serious? you're still with this? even after all the replies you got last night... some answered.. and most were huffing and puffing with one another..

yes yes i was lurking.. lately that's all i do, i dont post much anymore.. but seriously.. you can always Google it.. or look it up.. ask you doc or just keep checking your panties..  if its really that important to you.. im not trying to fuss with you, but seriously?? you're gonna start this question again?

everyone is different.. some lose it and notice it.. others dont.. it really depends.. its different for everyone.. i will be 38 weeks tomorrow and i still havent noticed anything.. even my doc told me theres a chance i wont even notice it come out.. it just depends..

  • It's like a big chunk of mucus, usually red or pink tinted.  Sometimes it comes out over time as a bunch of smaller chunks or globs.

I used to go to the doc to have that done.  It can be quite painful at times.  I should have just used an infant syringe.  It would have been much cheaper.

  • Not flaming you!

The mucus plug is different for EVERYONE.  With DD, I lost it and it was thick white ball of mucus.  NO BLOOD at all.  Have you googled it?  Just know that if you see a clump of mucus (slimy of red, yellowish, brown) it is probably part of your mucus plug.  Don't be alarmed, it is a good thing.  It means that your cervix is changing.  Don't call your doctor, unless there is alot of blood and or your water breaks or you start having contractions every 5 minutes for an hour.  Good luck.

I know that everyone experiences something different, and for those of you being rude, jesus these boards are for things like this, if you feel the need to be rude, don't bother clicking on the post. I am here to get questions answered and make friends, not to bicker and be made felt like an ass. I was looking for more personal experience rather than using a web search..

And it would be easy to ignore your stupidity if you didn't post with such a lame title.?
