Toddlers: 12 - 24 Months

which is worse (clicky)

For sake of argument we'll say the kid is under 3, in a carseat and the weather is not overly hot or cold.  [Poll]

  • i need a special snowflake option, please.

i don't leave dd in the car alone or the house alone, really.  she usually *helps* me carry in stuff if we're talking leaving her in the car vs. leaving her in the house when getting groceries out.

if she goes inside and doesn't want to come back out or it's raining or something, i gate her in her uber baby-proofed playroom until i'm done and put the doorstop on the screen door so i can hear her.

  • I guess in the car, since at least they're contained? Both scenarios make me cringe.
  • I cannot possibly choose. They are both terrible...

I don't think this counts. I think she means leaving your child for hours at a time.

  • I've left Emerson in the car to get dry cleaning.  The door is two steps from the parking spot, we have an account so, no need to pay and noone is ever in there but, me when I go.  I can see her from the counter.  Flame away.  I feel completely comfortable doing it.

    Home alone.  No way.

  • Well I wouldn't leave them either place, obviously, but if I *had* to choose, I would choose home.  I would be terrified that a stranger would come and bother/kidnap my babies in the car!  At least at home no one would bother them and the place is pretty baby-proofed.

Fire is what scares me in this scenario.

  • yeah I mean like 2-3 hours (or more)

There was a father in Vegas not so long ago who left his baby in the hotel room for HOURS while he was gambling downstairs.

Here there were 2 cases recently of parents leaving their kid in the car while going inside to gamble.  Both had cops/casino security called on them pretty fast.

For every kid left in a hotel room or parking lot I can't help but wonder how many are being left at home and not noticed.

  • I'm abstaining.

    They are both terrible.

In the car here, you can die in the summer. Someone could steal your LO.

At home, they could get into loads of trouble too.

  • I can't pick either.  I wouldn't do either one.  Nothing is that important.
