Has anyone done a fundraising garage sale?

We're applying for a couple of different grants that you have to prove that you've done some kind of fundraising in order to apply.  One of the things we've talked about doing is a fundraising garage sale.  Has anyone around here done one?  Would you mind sharing the letter or mailer you sent to family and friends about it?

    We did but I did not advertise it that way. I just had a garage sale and put the money in tha adoption account. I also put things in consignment sales around here and applied the money to the adoption.

    We let our church know and they put it in the program that we were accepting donations for our garage sale.  Also we just told our friends about it and they donated.  We also made signs for the day of the garage sale letting people know what the money was going for.  We had three, two for my sister in law and one for us and they were all great successes!

    I haven't but his is a GREAT idea! I would just be direct! We are having a fund raising yard sale to support our adoption ALL DONATIONS WELCOME!

    We are going to be having one next month! Our church has offered to put it in their bulletin for us and to provide a class where we offer education about adoption etc. to whomever would like to learn.  We could also bring up the garage sale then.  We are also going to offer for anyone to clean out their garages and basements early to donate their stuff.  Hopefully this will be a big draw during spring cleaning season!

    I know alot of couples  (on here and IRL) have done garage sales, but they haven't advertised them as adoption fundraisers, they just put the $$ into an adoption savings account.


    I can't help with the letter or mailer, but maybe putting an ad in your local newspaper or craigslist stating you're having a garage sale?

    We did one last September and made $400 which I deposited into our adoption savings account.  It wasn't much, but it will help with something!
