Large breasted girl wants to jog....any tips?

I've never been a jogger.... but always wanted to be able to do it and there's no better time than the present, right?

I just don't know how to begin. I have a large chest (DD pre-pregnancy and heaven only knows my current cup size now that I'm nursing) and can't stand it when they bounce! Anybody have good recommendations for a sports bra that truly holds the girls in place? I've tried a few but none cut out the bounce completely.

And how does one go about becoming a runner (or jogger). I assume you start by walking? I do like to take the kiddos out for walks... usually just a mile with a break at the playground in the middle... that's all my toddler will tolerate. But am open to doing longer walks in the evenings while DH watches the kids. Any tips on starting this process would be greatly appreciated!

  • honestly I wanted to be a runner, never felt comfortable w/ the bounce, but then got a breast reduction, and really got into it.  If that's not an option earlier in my pregnancy when I could still run but my boobs were growing, I wore a tighter bra under a good sports bra and that worked well

  • I would recommend going to breakoutbras.com and following their sizing instructions to figure out what size you are.  Then you can look on either their website, movingcomfort.com, Title Nine, or barenecessities.com for sport bras.  I love having a sport bra with a normal hook back that I don't have to pull over my nursing boobs (not so good for the laundry, if you know what I mean).  The moving comfort Fiona bra seems to be a big hit, but I think it only goes up to DD.  :(

As for starting to jog, I am in my second week of Couch to 5K and loving it so far!  It's not too demanding, takes only 30 minutes, 3 times a week, and so far even my gimpy knees and hips are tolerating it well.  :D

    Good luck!
  • Double bag those babies! Buy bras in a size down and wear two at a time. I have to admit I'm the biggest I've ever been and I'm only a D but this has worked for me and my tender boobs. As for starting running, check out the couch to 5k program or a Jeff Galloway program. Start slow and enjoy the ride. I hope you enjoy it as much as I have, good luck to you!
  • I agree with the PP's, definitely double up your bras.  I'm "just" a D, but I find the victorias secret sports bras pretty good.  They are fitted for your cup size and have individual boobs instead of the usual mono-boob you get with a lot of sports bras, but still double them up.

I also recommend once you start increasing your mileage and/or running in warmer weather you pat those boobies with some baby powder.  I've run several marathons and bouncing + sweating = major chaffing!!  Good luck!

  • Another vote for double sports bras.  I HATE any bouncing.  Pre preg I was a D-down to a small C after 3 kids.  I still wear 2 sports bras when I run.  I have a Champion bra and then put a Frog Bra (from Title 9) over top.  I don't move at all.
  • I'm a 34DD pre-preg and somewhere around a 34G or H now at 29 weeks.  I absolutely swear by Moving Comfort's Fiona bra.  I wear a 32DD to make sure that it's totally anchored around my ribcage.  It definitely controls the motion at this point, although there is a little bulging out the top.  I just hate to double up.  I've also heard that the frog bra at Title 9 is good.
  • I'm not an avid jogger or anything, but I did enjoy the occassional run pre-pregnancy.  I am a DD, too.  I always wore 2 sports bras.  Honestly, if I spent some moola and got a few good ones, I would likely only have to wear one.  I have heard Title 9 has good options.

There are a lot of walk/run plans to follow if you are interested in something fairly structured.  My mom is a big runner.  I remember seeing a lot of run/walk schedules in Runner's World when I lived at home.  I, personally, just jogged as long as I could; walked for a bit; jogged again as long as I could; etc.  If you keep up with it, you will be jogging in no time!

    Good luck!

  • I am a 32G now that I am nursing and I wore 1 regular bra and 2 sports bras when I went running and didn't have movement at all!
  • Know any cops? The easiest time I had running was when I wore a bullet proof vest. It straps everything down tightly so it doesn't move. It's great!
